We  had a fun-filled Thursday as we welcomed our first sunny weather of the week. A number of our friends in Flowers Class excitedly asked the teachers as they came in the morning, “Are we going to the park today?”. Before the teachers could reply, one of the boys replied, “Yes we can go to the park today because it is going to be sunny today forever and ever! We are lucky to start our day with so much excitement! We are so pleased to see how our friends in Flowers Class observe their environment and connect them to what they think it might imply. It is such a pleasure to start our day in Flowers Class with a great exchange of ideas.

As we moved around in our different learning centers during free play, we managed to decorate our birthday flower cards for Ke, create different things with play dough, had fun dressing up and worked with Liezel to continue writing our class contract and played with our wooden blocks.  Our boys’ imagination took us to a great display of different creations as they made robots, castles, towers and “normal” houses (which appear to be smaller and shorter than the rest of their creations.

During our circle time, we had a new Crisscross Applesauce chant where some of our friends took turns in sharing what their favorite cookie is. We used their favorite cookies in our chant and it was wonderful to hear a wide variety of cookie flavors from our friends. (A -  pineapple, Ma –cake cookie, Yu –rainbow, B—all flavors, Li –strawberry, Wil- chocolate flavor with chocolate toppings). We had fun pretending to eat these “delicious” cookies as we did our chant. Not only that we enjoyed playing our chant, it also helped us to sit nicely with our hands in our lap. And this was such a perfect timing to sing our Hello Song when everybody was all-focused and happy! It was great to hear everybody joined in our song and everybody knowing everybody’s names.

As morning routines becomes a part of our day in Flowers Class, we focused on    our Morning Jobs in a more detailed manner today. We took off the board from the teacher’s desk, showed it backwards and then invited everybody to guess what the board is.  We listened intently to the clue: “You see it every morning when you enter the door. What is it? “. We had very interesting answers from our friends: Br - It is a sign for names. Ed and Mo –It is something to make a house. An– Maybe it’s a real house! Yu –It is some kind of house where we have our names in. Ke –It is for making posters. K–Maybe it’s a picture frame. Sa – It is a card for our names. Be –Maybe it’s for drawing or maybe it’s a roof of a house. Mo– It’s like a computer. We could feel the excitement building up as to what the board really is! So, we all closed our eyes and opened them at the count of 5. Most of our friends were in awe when they saw that it was our poster for our Morning Jobs! It seemed like to some it was their first time to actually look at it directly! We talked about how we could choose our job for the day and discussed some reminders namely: (1) We choose our own job in the morning and keep it that way until the end of the day. (2) There are times when the job that we want to choose may not be available anymore. We agreed that we will choose the jobs which are available, instead of taking off our friend’s names from the job that we are interested in. We are excited to see how it will go tomorrow as we choose our job.

As most of our friends already guessed, we had our park time today. Since it was our first time as Flowers Class, we used the rope to walk to the park. We will gradually work on walking to the park without it. At the park, we had fun running around with Nimo, playing on the slides as well in the sand box. Ma used a water sprinkler to mix with sand. Ed got so excited and said, “Look! Sand becomes water when you mix it water!” A and Li

had a fun time trying to look for something in the grass. They got excited when they found one white small pebble (BB dan). Despite the heat, we all had a very great time in the park. When we got back in our classroom, we lay down and had a short quiet time before lunch time.

Another day, full of fun memories had passed in Flowers Class. We could not wait for tomorrow as we build more memories with all of our friends in Ohana!

Lots of love,

Flowers Class Children
