We were the photographers today
Our journal today is filled with some interesting photos that we took in the classroom. Every day when we are at school, our teachers take photos of us doing activities, singing songs etc. Today it was our turn. Some of us are not sure what to do with a camera and our teachers wanted us to try to work it out independently. We took photos from really close up; we took photos while moving; we took photos of our friends; we took photo of our toys; we took photos of our lunchboxes and more.
Our activities for today were adding lots of Autumn/Fall coloured collage materials to our paintings that we did yesterday. We used pom poms, tape, feathers, paper, tissue paper in yellow, brown, orange, red, and green. These were group art works and we will cut them into 14 pieces so that each of us can have one for our workbooks/portfolios. We will add to this page tomorrow when we make our acorns out of origami with Hisami. Today Hisami went looking for some acorns and she found something that resembled acorns but they weren’t really acorns. Then when we came back to school after the park, Shelley said that she had real acorns in her nature box. And there were! We are going to add some nature into our classroom over the next month as we explore the natural things that we can find, in our world. In all countries
nature can be the same and it can be different. It will be fun to collect nature when we are with our family on the weekend and during the week, we can collect it with our friends and teachers from our school.
During our early circle time this morning, we learnt really well how to wait our turn. Shelley had a puzzle on the floor with different coloured circles. She asked us to raise our hands, if we recognized the colour of one of the circles. Almost all of us had a turn as there were many colours to choose from. Then we looked around the room and went to look for objects that were the same colour as one of the discs that Shelley showed us. We then used our words and told our teachers and friends what we had found e. g. Lilian found a flower that spins around; William L found a bottle; Daiki found a cup; Lucinda found a Lego block; Taiyo found a hat with yellow ears; William B found an animal; Alexis found a block; Lucinda found a pink pig; Michaela found a green frog and Vincent found a green ball. We all found one item in each colour. We put everything inside a huge container and then our teachers had to sort them out and put them back where they belonged.
William L was the weather person today and he chose some friends to change the day, date and weather. Tomorrow we will have to change the month as well as it will be a new month. When we were walking back from the park our teachers were singing a song about the months of the year. We know the names of the days of the week but not yet all of the months. The most important month for us is the month when we were born.
You can see when you look at our photography from today, that we take unique photos. Each month we will be given a chance to use the camera and our teachers will print them and put them into our workbooks/portfolios. We will then be able to track our skills over the coming year. Just before we went to wash our hands for snack we were shown all of our name cards and we identified whose they were. Some of us remember our friend’s names and can “read” them already. We then placed our name on the white board and went to get ready for snack time.
When we returned from the park, we had another circle time, this time we had to guess which animal Shelley was……..this led us into story time when we listened to a story called “The clever crocodile”. It was a pop-up book so all of the animals were life like. The piranha moved its mouth as if it was eating; the flamingoes stood on one foot with their fluttering feathers as if they were doing bird ballet and the water buffalo waded through the fields of rice.
Love always Shelley, Hisami and Liezel.
