Show & Tell Airplanes
Welcome back everyone. We trust you all had a good long weekend and enjoyed yourselves. The weather was beautiful and continued into today. This morning on the main table we continued with our family portraits and drew our mummies, daddies, nannies brothers and sisters which we started briefly last week.
We did some great work and they will go into our special portfolios for the end of the year. Also using pencils we wrote onto our ‘All about me’ sheets who we live together with in our houses or apartments.
It was hard writing some of the words but we are all very proud of our work. Riko and Eito decided they wanted to play with the memory pictures card and took turns really nicely. On the second table Ethan and Ryan made their plaster hands again because unfortunately their previous plaster hands broke and so we needed to make new ones.
The play-dough was very popular this morning on the table with many of us and we made lots of play-dough cookies with the cookie cutters. After packing away the toys we all sat nicely in a circle for Jessica’s ‘Show & Tell’. Jessica brought along one of her favorite books all about airplanes. She showed the whole class her favorite pages and then answered questions from her friends about where she got it (from the airport), who bought it for her (her father), why she likes it (because it has lots of pictures of airplanes in it) and finally when she got it (a little while ago). She did a really good job and all her friends clapped and said a big “Thank you” to Jessica.
We headed for the park straight after snack time and are amazed to see the children becoming so independent now with putting their park smocks on, spreading out their sun lotion and bug spray with only a little help from the teachers. The park was very warm and we made sure we took our water bottles and hats along. When we got back from the park we split into 2 groups and used the big ‘Adam’ outline for a measuring activity on the table. We firstly chose a piece of tape and stuck it onto the picture along certain parts of his body e.g. waist, height, fingers, head etc.
We then used a ruler or a tape measure to see how many centimeters long each part of his body was. Meanwhile on the carpet the second group got really warm and sweaty so that we could talk about our bodies way of cooling itself. First we ran on the spot while counting to 50, then did head and shoulders, knees and toes, and finally some jumping exercises. When we were good and sweaty we asked what the liquid was on their arms and heads. Tokutaro said “water”.
We all laughed when we said there was one more thing in the water the same as our tears, no not lemonade, milk or Coca-Cola but salt. When we fanned their faces with a book they realized that the sweat was there to help cool our bodies. We put the big Adam picture on the wall and will continue to decorate it this week.
All our Love, Darren, Ayaka and Goh
