A great sunny day for making kakigori - shaved ice
9 September – Daily Journal
Happy sunny Tuesday! We had a very busy day with lots of fun activities. Several buds served up a special dinner for the teachers while others were busy playing with the people, using the fishing rods to put puzzles together and making cakes and rice balls with play dough.
On the art table this morning there were paper cups, markers and stickers for Buds to decorate. It was also a nice change for them to use makers on a non flat surface, having to hold the cups and draw on them without getting too much ink on their fingers was challenging and fun! The Buds that hadn’t decorated their height chart yet also did that with lots of dots and long lines on the paper.
In circle time today we danced to one of our favorite dances ‘Put Your Hands Up’ and a new one ‘Touch Your Tummy’. We also looked at our new weather chart. We decided it is sunny today so we put our sun picture on display and a hat because we need to wear our hats when it’s sunny.
“What are we going to make?” asked the teachers. Mmm, it was tricky to guess but some good ideas came up; “For table” said Hana, “drawing” said Lanah and “drinking” said Karl as he showed us how he drinks, glug, glug, glug. Finally it was time to make kakigori, shaved ice. “How does it feel” asked the teachers. “Cold” said several Buds as they all touched the ice. Buds were very excited when they saw the shaved ice come out of the grinder. It was making a little mountain. Buds took turns turning the grinder and filling their cups with ice. “What flavor do you think this is?” asked the teachers. Everyone was looking at the red container and thinking when someone suddenly saw a picture of a strawberry on it and guessed
correctly – Strawberry!
All three Ohana classes were at the park today so we got to play with lots of children. Some Buds were busy in the sand box, others were happy to roam around, especially at the top of the slide area today.
Yay, all our Buds kept their hats on and did a great job holding the rope, even when they saw yellow leaves they wanted to pick up on the road.
Thank you
