Mothers Day breakfast
It was such a fun morning with our mums, helpers and grandma today at school. We celebrated Mothers Day with a breakfast for our mums, all prepared beautifully by our teachers. When we arrived at school we had a fantastic spread of strawberries, oranges, blueberries, bananas, golden kiwi and yoghurt. Because our teachers were so concerned abhout keeping the breakfast as healthy as possible, they even bought sugar free yoghurt and had some small side dishes filled with honey, just in case we needed something to sweeten the yoghurt. It was all so delicious and spending time together with our mums was really meaningful to us all.
Our mums and helpers and grandmas, usually just drop us off and pick us up at the door, but today we had them all to ourselves in our classroom. After we had served them their breakfast, we took care of ourselves and ate, even though most of us had already had our breakfast at home. Our teachers often comment on how huge our appetites are and they are never surprised when we eat a lot.
After feasting on our yummy breakfasts, we went to the carpet where we sat together and then we all gathered together and sang “Let’s all hold hands in a circle” and we selected some of the actions for everyone to do. We chose “jumping, kicking, tapped our heads” and our teachers chose “Shrugging our shoulders, turning around, clapping and bending our knees”. We looked at our circle with all of us and our visitors and we couldn’t believe how huge our circle was today. We were so happy that there were so many of our mums, grandma and helpers celebrating with us. Even though there were so many of us, we decided to go ahead and sing our “Hello” song. Many of our mums, did not know one another so it was nice for them to learn all of our mums names. We
then gave them our gifts and cards that we had made.
We made a card with our hand print on it, a heart and the gift was a key ring with a photo of us inside it. We think that our mums loved everything about today. We want to thank them all for coming and being a part of this special morning at Ohana. Happy Mothers Day mummies; we love you soooooooo much!
When our parents left us, we were of course a little upset and some of us cried for a long time. Some of us even screamed with big voices that our teachers had not heard before. We surprise them regularly! We did some fun drawing on huge pieces of paper on the floor and played with play dough. Then we went to the MPR and played there for a while. We all rested peacefully having had such a full day at school with people who are so special to us.
You all know how much we love the book “Brown Bear” well Shelley played a new game with us using the language that is repeated in the book. She first demonstrated what she wanted us to do so we all asked her “Shelley, Shelley what do you see?” She then looked around the room and replied “I see a leaf looking at me”. We waited patiently for our turn and looked around the room to see what we could see. We saw a snake, a butterfly, a another leaf, a cupcake, a flower, a fire truck, a fire man etc. We also looked at a whole lot of
laminated pictures of things that are part of the “Very Hungry Caterpillar” story which we are going to dramatise in our own way at our end of year party for all of our families. Our teachers believe that we are capable of doing so many things and they know that we love the story so much; they thought it would be a good idea to do something different and we will rise to the challenge!
We are looking forward to seeing our friends and teachers again tomorrow.
Love always Shelley, Hisami, Liezel, Nanako, Ayaka and Goh.
