Keeping fit on Friday's
“It’s a lovely day today, and whatever you’ve got to do,it would be lovely to be doing it with you!”
We had a lovely day today and spent a lot of time keeping fit in our KIDFIT class and outside in the park. At the moment, when we are in the park, we tend to do things that are not too active as the weather is hot and the sun is bright and we prefer to play with sand and water. We also enjoy sitting on the swings and climbing the step ladder and coming down the slide.
During the morning we played with the Noah’s Ark wooden toy with two of each animal; we spent time building with blocks and we of course dressed up in the home corner. At the tables we decorated some hearts, played with pegs, drew pictures and did puzzles. Today’s “I can” activity was related to doing two things at the same time. In our music circle time, we all stood up and held hands and did actions. We held hands, jumped, turned around, clapped our hands, swayed, stamped our feet and much more. This is a skill that requires us to listen and follow one instruction. Our teachers know that we can do this so they thought that they would give us something to do that includes doing two actions. We all had a block in our hand and the fun thing about the blocks was that when you shake them, they make a sound. There is something inside them that makes the sounds and the sounds are different. We first sat down and listened to the music; when the music played we shook our blocks and when the music stopped, we stopped too. We laughed each time we stopped. Then we stood up and listened to the music which was the ‘Shaky, shaky’ song. We shook our bodies and the blocks. This was the tricky part because it is doing two things at the same time. We all did a great job and had fun too. During story time,
Sabine, Nanako and Liezel were reading to us so we had three reading circles going on at the same time and in each circle, we concentrated really well and listened carefully to the story that was being read to us. Nanako read “The Very Hungry Caterpillar”; Sabine read “We’re going on a Bear Hunt” and Liezel read “Brown bear, brown bear, what do you see?” Upstairs we had our emergency Fire Drill and discussed the numbers that we need to call if there is a fire. The numbers are 119. We also looked at the different exits in our classroom so that we leave the room safely and carefully. In our earthquake drill, we hid under a table first and covered our heads. When there is a fire, we need to cover our mouths so that the black smoke and
unclean air does not go into our lungs. We made our way down the outside stairs which are the safe exit at our school, if there is a fire.
We used the wooden shapes to make birds and made a fantastic selection of birds with them which will be on our website journal page. We were extremely creative with the shapes and used our own originality and imagination. Our story today was called “Pingu tries to fly”. “Body parts” is the new theme in our KIDFIT classes. We reviewed the names of our body parts using a poster of a boy and a girl. We looked at the front and the back of our bodies and saw that we look quite different from both of these perspectives. We used plates with Velcro on them to throw and catch a ball and we all held the edges of a parachute and bounced a banana in the middle, grapes and an orange. We made fruit salad because fruit salad is healthy for our bodies. We also learnt what a good touch is and what a bad touch is. This is a bit advanced for us to understand. We also learnt that if someone we don’t know offers us candy or chocolate, we must put our hands on our hips and shout in a really big voice “NO” and run away. We must always tell our parents too when this kind of thing happens. These are important things for us to learn but our teachers are not sure how much we truly understand.
Love always Shelley, Darren, Nanako, Ayaka, Christine, Goh, Liezel and Sabine
