Welcome Jee and Jee Jee
Today was a lovely warm day and we all walked happily to the park where we spent time playing on the equipment, almost as if the park was just ours for the day. We are being extremely adventurous, climbing up the climbing wall that has slits for our feet to go into as well as the ladder leading up to the slide. Our teachers either stand behind us or one of them waits on top to see that we go down safely. Today Marc climbed up a number of times, all by himself.
Downstairs we welcomed Zachary’s dad’s mom and dad who are his grandparents; he calls them Jee and Jee Jee. They both read us stories so we ended up having two beautiful books read to us. His grandma Linda, as this is her real name, read to us a book about a “Napping House”. We know what napping is because after lunch we take a nap and some of us actually fall asleep and some of us just rest. In the story there was a grandma napping; and then so many different animals and one child napped too and then they all woke up. Each time she read the line that marked the end of a section, we knew that the word would be “sleeping” and we said it in our big voices. It was almost as if we were telling the story too. Thanks Jee and Jee Jee for coming to Ohana to read us beautiful stories. We loved meeting you and hope you will come back and read to us again one day.
Our activities that we did today were decorating a heart for someone’s birthday….shhhhhhh….we don’t want to make a big announcement but one of our teachers, he is a man, is having a birthday just after Golden Week. We are not sure if you can guess who it is! Then we had an activity prepared with circles in many different colours and sizes however we were so busy this morning, we didn’t have a chance to work on this activity so we will do it on Monday. The circles will end up being the eyes of the Koi Nobori. We will also talk about sizes when we make them.
We had a great time in KIDFIT where we continued learning about our skin and what we need to do to keep it healthy; eat good food, get enough rest and exercise. We also remembered that when we are out in the sun, we need to wear a hat and have sunscreen on. Our teachers tell us that our skin is so beautiful and soft and we need to take care of it when we are little so that it stays beautiful and soft when we are older. We balanced bean bags on our heads, we used white noodles which we raised above our heads in order to strengthen the muscles in our arms and we played with balls which we usually throw, catch and kick.
At the tables upstairs Sofia made a flying fish which she decorated, stapled around the outside and then stuffed with crumpled up newspaper to make it 3D. Nico made a dolphin, Emily also made a dolphin, Sean made a seahorse and FJ made a starfish. Ava and Sophie worked on their ocean scenes. During library time, we looked at the skull and cross bone sign and tried to work out what it means and if we had ever seen it before. Beckett said he thought it belonged on a pirate ship; FJ said it meant that you could find treasure; Sofia said that maybe it was a stolen boat; Sophie said it made her think of other bad pirates. We also read the story called “Henry and the Buccaneer Bunnies”.
We did another activity on a large canvas which we are making with our friends downstairs. Yesterday they painted orange and pink using rollers and today we tore newspaper and pasted the pieces onto the canvas. We put glue on top of the newspaper as well so that it would stay properly stuck to the canvas. When we were putting glue on some of the newspaper became a little pinkish and orangish. This is because the paint is washable. Next week when we paint on the canvas we will use acrylic paints which are better and adhere to the canvas readily.
For those of us who had photos taken today, it was once again a fun time in the “studio” with Kerry and Junko and our mums and dads are eagerly awaiting the finished products so that they can see the new improved versions of us.
Have a great weekend everyone!
Love always Shelley, Darren, Nanako, Ayaka, Christine, Goh, Liezel and Sabine.
