We love being stars

We were so happy that William L came to school today so that he could “be a star” with us. He missed the first two days of this week and we waited patiently for him to get well again and he did! Today, when we arrived at school, we saw the huge drawing that our artist teacher, John, made for us, on the table. Half of the picture is Elsa and the other half is Lightning McQueen. We waited to see what we were going to do with the pictures. Well, later in the morning, we put OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

on art smocks and used sponges and dabbed the different colours onto the pictures. We also used brushes when there was a small space that we needed to paint. Lightning McQueen became red and Elsa became light blue. We added some black and yellow to Lightning McQueen for his tyres and lights and some other detail; with Elsa’s hair becoming platinum blonde.

We looked at photos of the real Elsa and Lightning McQueen and told our teachers what colours we should use and where the colours should go. We insisted on Elsa having pink lipstick even though it made her lips a lot thicker. We loved doing painting here and enjoyed painting on our return from the park. We actually had a picnic in the park for snack time today for this reason. The paper with Elsa and Lightning McQueen’s pictures was attached to the large activity table. During the morning Shelley said to

us that there is no room for us to have snack because of this. So we suggested a picnic in the park. Everyone thought that this was a great idea. So after William, Taiyo and Kenichi had made their costumes and William, Luka and Miyu had made their hand prints, we packed up all of our snacks and headed to the park. It was lovely and cool in the shade of

the trees and we spent part of our outdoor playtime, enjoying eating our snack. The park was empty at this time, so when we had finished eating our snacks, we played on the equipment with our friends and teachers.

Our teachers attached our hand prints to a piece of cardboard. The cardboard was different colours and we could choose which one we wanted. We were so excited to take our star necklaces and our hand prints home; and while we were waiting to be picked up at the end of the day, we were standing on the balcony and telling all the mums and teachers that we saw, that we were stars. We said:

“I am a star”. We changed the calendar this morning and many of us know how to look for numbers that have double digits. Yesterday was the 23rd and it is made up of a two and a three. Today is the 24th and we worked out that we needed to find the number that has a two and then a four on it. We also were very sensible with regard to the weather because it appeared to be sunny but Lanah told us that there were some clouds in the sky. So we added cloudy to the weather today; it is sunny and cloudy.

We have been having really interesting discussions in class and we remembered that Shelley went to Australia because her friend died. So during lunch we spoke about this. Lanah reminded Shelley about her friend who died and Shelley told us that her name was Bonita. Lanah said: “I didn’t die” Shelley: “Yes, you didn’t die” Lanah: “And my family didn’t die” Shelley: “Yes, your family didn’t die” Lanah: “They didn’t die. They are magical” Miyu: “My dad’s friend died. My dad didn’t die” Shelley: “Oh” Miyu: “I don’t remember his name” Miyu: “My family didn’t die” Lanah: “Can you be alive again after you die” Shelley: “I think that when you are alive you are alive, and when you are dead, I think you are dead” Lanah: “If a bird gets dead, maybe a bird doctor can make it be alive again” Shelley: “I am not sure about this”

We really enjoy these open conversations with our teachers that we initiate. Sometimes we ask them questions and sometimes they don’t have the answers. Thanks for another great day, being a star! Tomorrow we are going to be “Master Chefs” just like the chefs on television. You can be a star in the movies and on television. Love always Shelley, Hisami and Liezel
