The year is flying by

We spent the morning working a little bit on our backgrounds for our 3D art works. Yesterday our journal was filled with so much information; we forgot to tell you about our discussion on perspective. We sat at the table and looked at pictures and paid attention to what was in the front and what was at the back of the picture. We looked at the size of objects and noticed that some of OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

them were small and some were big. In our discussion we realized that the things at the back of the picture that were small, were far away; that is why they were small. The large things in the front or foreground of the picture were large because they were near. We then spoke about what was in front and what was behind. We spoke about these two concepts while Shelley made

a drawing. We told her that we wanted her to make a house which she did and behind the house, there were mountains. In front of the house was a car. So she drew a car, attached a piece of cardboard to the back and stapled it onto the page. Then we really saw perspective, and in front of. This was her sketch.

You can see the car is on the grass. It is also in front of the garage. The mountain is far away and the flowers are on the grass. The

boat is on the lake and the bird is in the tree. So today we started to make our backgrounds. Manuel and Daiki both chose to make a road with a car. Unfortunately we didn’t work here for too long because we had to practice our singing for the End of Year party, so we will work longer tomorrow and complete them next week. We are enjoying learning new concepts and thinking about how we look at things in life. We did a lot of cutting too this morning as we have

pictures of our shop that we want to paste inside our workbooks/portfolios. We are trying to complete many things so that we can be ready for our End of Year party next week, and have everything up to date. Tomorrow we will paste all of our photos into our books with some information about the shop. We also have some documentation in our workbooks about it.

We of course spent some time in the shop this morning, buying goods and ordering take-aways. We always take care when we are packing away at the end of our play time and do our best to respect our friends and the things that we have in our classroom.

We have to share with you something about our singing practice today. Our teachers were so proud of us while we were singing because we sang with our beautiful singing voices. If we were not singing loudly enough, Shelley put her hand behind her ear and

straight away we knew what she meant. We turned up the volume and again sang with pride; and loud voices. When we changed the names on our calendar, we realized the today is Thursday and while the first letter is “T” it doesn’t start with a “t” sound. It starts with e “th” sound. When you say words with a “th” sound, you have to almost stick your tongue out, when you say the sound. Tuesday also starts with a “T” and it does have a “t” sound.

We love singing our Japanese song that we are doing for the End of Year party and we now all remember what fruit or vegetable we planted. We have learnt many Japanese words and have loved the preparations for the party. We learnt the words of all of the songs through listening to the CD every single day and now we are just rehearsing a few actions, where to stand, what signals to pay attention to etc. Our teachers taught us some things using just their hands and no words and we can do them all. We are really looking forward to celebrating our fantastic year with

our Petals Class teachers and our families. We also think it’s great for our parents to go out and have fun with our teachers in the night time. They spend so much time with us and we are happy to stay at home with our baby-sitters tomorrow night. See you tomorrow for the last Friday of this school year Love always Shelley, Hisami and Liezel
