Miyu's Show and Tell
Today we painted the street that our school is in, signaling the start of our 3D “neighbourhood” in Moto Azabu 3 chome. Yesterday we planned to make the Bread store - Bakery, Supermarket, Glass Studio, Recycling Center, houses, our school of course, the parking lot near the school, the shrine opposite the school and houses. We also thought that the policeman who stands at the end of the road, where we walk to the park, is an important part of our neighbourhood. So we must remember to make him when we have finished
making our buildings. Vincent and Miyu helped paint the road by looking carefully at the street to see what colour it is and whether there were some other significant colours that we needed to pay attention to. They both said that there was a green line and a white line so we added the lines when the black paint was dry.
We put the large piece of cardboard on the balcony to get dry and now it is on
the table, waiting for us to work on it tomorrow.
At the second activity table, we completed our sheep for the Year of the Sheep. We now all have a sheep that we will take home eventually; and because we cannot paste our sheep into our Workbooks/Portfolios, our teachers will take a picture of them, and we will paste the photos into our books. This is the same for our fans. We will have a few photos of our work in our books instead of the work itself. 3D things cannot go inside a book unless they are specially designed for Pop-up books.
Our last activity was marbling. Even though some of us had already done a marbling activity before, we still wanted to make another one today. Hisami gave some of us many marbles which we rolled in our boxes over and over and made so many patterns. We used “Shogatsu” colours e. g. pink, red, gold and silver as we are still in the first month of the year and we are combining Japanese New Year with our 3D neighbourhood.
During the morning we had a few circle times and then we ended our day with Show and Tell. In our first circle time, we completed our calendar and said “yes” when our name was called. We sang “Hello, hello, hello” and asked all of our friends and teachers “What is your name?” Then we read “Wacky Wednesday”. The story was about how crazy Wednesday can be sometimes. In this story, there was a shoe on the wall, one on the
ceiling too, and many other crazy things. We had to try to look at one of the pages and find three wacky things. We could find many more than three and some of us noticed really small things that were wacky on the page. Today was not really Wacky Wednesday at school, it was rather Busy Wednesday.
While we were playing on the mat this morning, Koh chan made a house withthe Lego as well as a car. He remembered that we made our plan yesterday using Lego and he continued playing in this way all by himself. Luka and Manuel joined him and made cars and other modes of transport. Taiyo spent time playing with the trains and some of us were working on a challenging puzzle. When we get up after rest time, we have started doing more challenging puzzles and we love it. We have been doing ones with pictures of trains on them and can see that there are so many different trains in Japan. Some of us remembered that we saw some just like the ones in the picture, when we went to the Railway Museum for our school excursion.
In our second circle time, we clapped our hands, and played the drums one at a time. First Hisami tapped a rhythm on the musical notes and then we played the same rhythm on the drum. We went around the circle so that everyone could have a turn.
Then we went to the park. In the park we had so much fun because John, the new teacher in Buds Class pretended that he was a tiger. We ran away from him because we are scared of tigers. We then ran after him shouting “tiger” and then he chased us again. By the time that we were finished playing this game, we were so warm.
Miyu’s Show and Tell was a book that she received from Santa. She was so excited to show us the book which was called “Mr. Tweed’s Good Deeds”. It is similar to the “Where’s Wally” books where you have to find Wally and his friends and many other things. We tried to find a kite, kittens, mice, fish and gift boxes.
We are looking forward to seeing how our 3D neighbourhood evolves tomorrow. We will keep you all posted! Stay warm on this cold winters evening.
Love always Shelley, Hisami and Liezel
