Riko's show and tell and Fire Drill
We were very happy this morning when we came into the class to see lots of sparkly art materials on the table. There were lots of gold, silver, red and green rolls of tape, gold paint, sparkly silver glue, red, green, gold and silver origami paper, red, green, gold and silver yarn as well as lots of sparkly stickers. Darren called everyone to the table and told them it was all there for them to make their own ‘free’ art. We then had the chance to make a picture using any of the materials on the table and could also include sparkly pens and colored pencil in our work. Many of us made sparkly pictures of Christmas trees with
presents underneath. We could also take our artwork home today too if it was dry in time. Maybe we can add some more to it tomorrow if we have time. On the
second table Jennifer saw the Montessori blocks and built 3 towers using the yellow and red blocks in a red, yellow, red, yellow…..pattern. On the carpet the cars and trucks were very popular with us and we even got out our transport artwork to play on. Goh San, Noa, Nile and Arata enjoyed some time in the library and looked so sweet all dressed up in the costume clothes. After packing away all the toys and eating our snack we read a book called ‘Waiting for Santa’ which was short but had a great picture of a Christmas tree with lots of lights on it. This lead us into
talking about how we had to be careful around the tree and the lights because of
the risk of fire. We all practiced the numbers 119 out loud and then did both an earthquake and a fire drill. We all moved down the stairs carefully and we headed for the park. In the park the workmen have finally fixed the ball play area and so we had lots of fun playing soccer with our friends in the sunshine. When we got back from the park it was time for Riko’s ‘Show & Tell’. We were very lucky to see that Riko had brought along a special book in Japanese all about the mail and mailmen. Inside the book there were several pockets with a letter, a game or puzzle piece, a small book and an expanding 3 D card scene. Riko then answered some
questions with Ayaka’s help including “Where did you get the book”? – “Grandma”, “Which page do you like the best”? – “The expanding 3D page”, and several other questions. Well done Riko we were very lucky to see your special show and Tell today! Together with Ayaka we then all sang the song “Red, and Yellow and Pink and Green, Orange and Purple and Blue, I can see a rainbow” in English. Using the colours from the song and a few others such as white and black we then used our Japanese to name the colours. Ayaka then had a great Japanese song which translates to “Which color do you like”? Each of us then
chose a colour and also one of three shapes, ‘Maru (Circle), Shikaku (Square), or Sankaku (Triangle). We could then choose a
piece of origami in that shape to take home today. Thank you Ayaka, it was great to learn the colours and shapes today with our friends.
Have a great afternoon.
