Toku's Cupcake Show & Tell
This morning when we arrived in the class there were lots of pieces of white tissue paper taped to the table. There was a piece for each of us to make a holiday colored artwork each. The tissue was the kind of tissue we usually use to blow our noses and so we needed to be very careful that we didn’t break the tissue. In the center of the table were two pots with red and green food coloring and water in them. Alongside the food coloring were also two pipettes for picking up the color. It was a little difficult to get
the color into the pipettes but once we did we could start to use it on the tissue by dripping it carefully onto the surface. It was great to see the color spread out across the tissue. The red was really bright but as it spread out it started to lighten and turned out a beautiful pink color. After we had applied the green and red we got some gold
and silver glitter glue which we squeezed onto the surface, some in spots, others in big swirly lines. We will need to wait until the tissue dries a bit before we can see if it will come off the surface of the table plastic. On the second table we were all adding some glitter to our special gifts today. The pieces we glued together yesterday had dried and we put the shape into a tray with some glue in it to coat the edge. We then dipped it into a tray of glitter. We could choose from red, green, silver or gold glitter. When we lifted the shape up the glitter had stuck to the edge really well. On the carpet Nile and Arata enjoyed sorting
the colored animals into lines according to their color and type. In the carpet area Kosei, Olivia and Jennifer played with the Montessori block cylinders. They started off by making
towers from each colored box and then we tried making towers with patterns such as yellow, red, yellow, red, yellow etc. It was a little difficult at first but we soon got the hang of it. After snack time we got ready for the park and read a book together called ‘Santa’s summer Christmas’. The book told how Santa’s Reindeer got sick and he used a helicopter to deliver the presents all over the world. He finished up in Hawaii and had a great time surfing. In the park we played soccer and practiced kicking the lightweight balls. Adam was a great player and he tried his header which gave us the idea of practicing using our heads. We lined up and when Darren threw the
ball we headed it back to him. When we arrived back it was time for Tokutaro’s ‘Show and Tell’. He
brought along a wonderful box of cupcakes made from art clay. There were 8 beautiful cupcakes in the box including a strawberry, blueberry, cherry, mikan and even a superman cupcake. He told us how he made them and answered his friends questions really well. He wanted to show all his friends and stood up to show them his beautiful artwork. Well done Tokutaro, it was a great Show and Tell and you looked so proud of your work. We read a book next all about colors and animals by Eric Carle called ‘Brown Bear, Brown Bear, what do you see’? This was great for learning colors. In circle time we tried our hands at tying knots in sparkly yarn. This skill we will use on our secret Christmas gift this afternoon.
Have a great afternoon.
All our love, Darren and Ayaka
