Yearbook Photo Day & Decorating our Tree
Today we had another special day with our friends and teachers; yes, our yearbook photo day. We all had our individual photo’s, with our brothers or sisters as well as with all our friends and teachers in flowers class. When we arrived in the classroom and completed our morning jobs we saw a ring of colored tiles on one of the tables. The tiles came with a big box of similar tiles but when we looked the tiles were actually
very slightly different shades of the same color. Each tile had 6 others which were slightly lighter or slightly darker. To finish the activity we needed to put the tiles in the correct order. Some were really hard and even the teachers had a bit of trouble telling the differences in the shades. On the main table Kosei, Ethan, Ryan, Adam, Noa and Nile all worked on their special ‘secret’ gift for their mummies and daddies. They used either gold or silver yarn to
wind around their painted tube and then gave the tubes a good coating of glue to make the yarn stick. We also made 6 more planter boxes using the glue carefully and then putting elastic bands around them to hold them while the glue sets. Ava, Nile and Jennifer also helped prepare some of the next pieces for making the planter boxes by drilling the holes in the wood with the teachers help. On the carpet there were lots of colored animals to sort and we had a good time sorting them by color or type of animal. Tokutaro and Adam had a good time at the literacy table writing letters as
well as words on the small whiteboards. We went upstairs two or three at a time to have our photos taken during free play time which gave us only a short time to complete the table activities. After snack time we headed for the park and it was a beautiful day to be outside in the
sunshine. The ground was a little damp but we still had a good time with our friends. When we came back from the park it was time for Jeremy’s ‘Show & Tell’. Jeremy brought along his favorite toothbrush with a green car on it, as well as some grape toothpaste. He told us how his father had bought them for him and he loved the grape taste. We asked Jeremy some questions about why he liked them, if they were new or old and he then got up and showed us all slowly his prized possessions. Well done Jeremy, it was a great show and tell. In circle time we started with a song about colors: “Red & Yellow and Pink and Green,
Orange and Purple and Blue, I can sing a rainbow, sing a rainbow, sing a rainbow too”. Tokutaro and Ryan
were our teacher’s helpers today and so they took turns putting out some colored pots in the right order as we all sang the song. Next we brought out the Christmas tree and found a pertner. On the table there were lots of colored decorations and tinsel for the tree. With our partner we had to choose one piece and bring it back to put around the tree. We all had to say the color of the piece we had chosen. We turned off all the lights in the classroom and when we opened our eyes the tree was all lit up. The tree had a light inside it that changes color and we could see it all sparkling in the lights. In the afternoon we got to choose some wooden ornaments to put on the tree. Tomorrow we will put some sparkly streamers
up in the classroom too!
Have a great afternoon.
All our love, Darren, Ayaka and Goh San
