Our toy town is finished
This morning we started making our New Year gifts for our mummies and daddies. On the table we saw some card tubes which we first needed to decorate lightly. There was some silver and gold paint on the table with some brushes for us to use. We will have to cut the tubes later so we couldn’t decorate them too much as the decoration may fall off. On the second table we saw the boxes we painted grey to look
like buildings yesterday. Next to them were some square and rectangular pieces of paper which we used to make windows. We chose which pieces of paper we wanted to use and then drew curtains or people in the windows before sticking them on the grey card towers. Ethan and Arata decided to use the literacy table to write letters on the small whiteboards. Nanako got several of us together to play a game with the fruit
and vegetable toys. We played a fun game where we hid the fruit and vegetables under a cloth and then Nanako took one away like magic and we had to guess which one was missing. After we had packed away the other toys we moved all our newly made card buildings to the big floor ‘transport’ artwork. We then each selected any kind of vehicle from the toy box to place on the roads on the artwork. Soon we had added traffic lights, the
buildings, two helicopter landing pads and the origami boats we made recently. We all had a big group photo with our wonderful artwork. Soon it was time to head for the park and although it was a little chilly we all had a good time. When
we came back from the park we saw on the table some tools. In the library area we talked about how tools and toys are different and that we don’t play with tools, we play with toys. We needed to use the tools safely with the teachers help. After the New Year we are going to be making small wooden planter pots for the outside space on the top floor. To make the wooden pots we needed to help cut some wood and drill some holes. Each of us came to the table to mark the holes and then drill them with
an electric drill. We also used the big saw to cut the wood to the right size for the bases of the pots. The last thing we needed to do was to cut some rope to the right
length. On the table was a piece of tape which helped us measure the correct size. The rope is going to be used to hold the pot to the lattice fencing. It was a lot of fun but we couldn’t all do the cutting and drilling at the same time and so we all went to spend our last few minutes playing on the transport artwork on the carpet area. We will start to put the pots together for our class after the New Year.
All our love, Darren, Ayaka and Nanako
