Piggy Banks and Granny Racing
Today when we entered the classroom we saw a new activity on the main table; a racetrack with two controllers. It looked just like a racetrack for cars but had two small ‘grannies’ sitting in wheelchairs instead of race cars. We hadn’t thought of wheelchairs yesterday when we discussed getting from one place to another. We also thought of a few new ones today including skis, snowboards and hot air balloons. We put the wheel chaired ‘grannies’ on the track and Darren showed us how to make sure
they were on correctly. When we pushed the button they started to race around the track really fast and crossed over on the straight parts. They occasionally went so fast that they crashed or one stopped on the crossing. This was great fun and we all wanted to try. On the second table we started our preparation for 7-5-3 day by adding our
hand prints to the outside of the bags with white paint. We needed to put one hand into the white paint which was on a sponge and then press down on the paper and count to 10. When we lifted our hands we saw a beautiful white hand print which we will add to later to make it into something special. Thank you Chiharu San and Shiori San for the wonderful preparation for this. On the main carpet the train set was again very popular. Eito and Kosei did a great job of connecting lots of pieces of track together before
adding some trains. Good work guys!! Ava and Jennifer wanted to add some more decoration to the junk art trains they started yesterday. They started off by choosing 6 wheels which were the same size and then we glued them to the sides. They then started
using markers and did some more decoration on the sides and top of the train. After packing away and eating snack we had Ava’s ‘Show and Tell’. Ava brought along a wonderful piggy bank she had decorated for her birthday. She had her name on it as well as some hearts. She had lots of questions to answer including: “When did you get it”? –“October 29th”, “What are you going to buy with the money inside”? – “A shiny pig race car”, “What’s it made of”? – “Clay”, “What do you like to do with presents”? – “Unwrap them” and “How did you decorate it”? – “With the markers they gave me with the
piggy bank”. We went to the park straight afterwards and when we came back we read a book titled ‘Cars and Trucks and things that go’ which had some really funny vehicles in them
such as banana cars, cheese cars, pencil cars and carrot cars. We all had a good laugh at these. We then played a game where we selected a card and looked carefully at it without showing our friends. In turns we thought about the jobs those people do such as a pilot flies planes, a flight attendant serves food etc. We then took turns giving clues to see if our friends could guess the job. We had firefighter, doctor, teacher, caregiver, painter, mailman, road construction worker, engineer and police officer. When it was time to wash our hands for lunch we hopped on our imaginary train and held two tubes which we rotated like a steam train. When we got to the kitchen we
got off the train and started lunch.
Have a great afternoon. All our love, Darren, Ayaka and Jen
