Our trip to the Railway Museum in Omiya

Our “teru teru bozus” didn’t work very well last night however we had a wonderful trip to the Railway Museum in Omiya today. We missed some of our friends who were unable to join us and hope that one day they too, will get a chance to visit it. We think that the dads especially would be fascinated by the number of trains there were to see and go on, as well as the displays, the opportunity to “drive” a steam train, shinkansen and local train and much, much more.

???????????????????????????????We went on a really old train that had beautiful wooden seats and ??????????????????????paneling inside. We also looked through the window at one that had gold and fancy decorations on it. We think that long ago they made beautiful things out of natural materials. Today, things look a lot sleeker but we are not sure if they last as long as the old ones do. We know that the trains today are much faster because we are always in a hurry to do things. Maybe we all need to slow down and take our time and just enjoy the moments that we have, each day; like we did today with our mums, dads, grandmas, grandpas, teachers and friends.

The museum was really enormous and had two floors. You can see one of the photos was taken from the top looking down at the trains. When we first arrived at the museum, we walked on top ??????????????????????of glass that had lights underneath it. The glass was covering a box that had old numbers from trains in it. We were a bit nervous to walk on the glass.

There was so much to see and our time at the museum was broken up??????????????????????????????? into looking at things, having lunch and then looking at more things. Our lunch place was inside an old train carriage. We had tables to eat on and we had a great time, socializing while we were eating. Then we all went on, probably, the slowest shinkansen in the world. It was a small train that looked like a shinkansen, made especially for children to go on. We went on it with all of our friends and two of our teachers and waved goodbye to everyone on the mini platform and were gone for a very slow seven minute ride. We climbed off the train, with huge happy faces.

??????????????????????We of course, wanted to also look at the store and see what they were selling.

Thanks for a fabulous day out at the Railway Museum. We know that some of our mums and teachers really wanted to go sweet potato digging, but it just was not the best option today. Junko san took lots of photos which we will all be able to look at when she sends the link ???????????????????????????????to our teachers. Stay dry everyone!

Love always Shelley, Hisami and Liezel.
