Rain, Rain go away
On the side table when we arrived this morning we saw there were some colored wooden blocks and shape cards. At first we weren’t that interested in them but we soon realized that the cards had two
sides, one with color the other with just the black outlines to the shapes. This was a bit more challenging and more fun. We made pictures of helicopters, bicycles, flowers and even a birthday cake. It was very funny because today is Tokutaro’s birthday and Ava made him the cake picture, Tokutaro then pretended to blow out the candles on the top. Congratulations Tokutaro on your 5th Birthday. We will celebrate Tokutaro and Ava’s birthday party on the 29th of this month. On the main table there were some large sheets of white paper with green and brown
paper. We also saw some paint rollers with them. We usually work alone or as a whole class when we make artwork but today we worked in pairs. We chose a friend to work with and used the rollers to
make grass and tree trunks and branches with the green and brown paint. We needed to let it dry before we could work on it further and so did more on it during circle time later. On the carpet the ball and track toys were very popular and we worked together to build towers with funnels and wheels. At the end we tried the tracks using small balls. Sometimes it worked but at other times it didn’t but that was okay. We got ready for the park but by the time we left there were a few spots of rain in the air and so went to the small pond to look around. Unfortunately the rain
got a little heavier and had to return to the classroom quite quickly. Before we started circle time Nanak read us all a wonderful book titled ‘5 minutes peace’ which settled us all really well. In circle time we brought out our paintings we did with the rollers in the morning. Our tree
pictures looked like winter rather than autumn because the tress had no leaves on them. We all gave the teachers some ideas about what we could use for the autumn colored leaves such as; paint, markers, colored pencils, pens and paper. We decided to use two of these: paint and paper. Moving to the table we all tore up some tissue paper into small pieces. We put all the colors separately. Meanwhile in our groups of two we firstly sprayed our painting with lots of water and then using paint
droppers we dripped the paint onto the branch areas. We were amazed to see the colors spread across the paper and when there were some bubbles we all blew really hard to make them spread and then burst. We used red, green, yellow and orange paint for this and worked together with our partners to make sure there were all four colors on the paper. They look
really good but will take a while to dry unfortunately. We will attach the colored tissue paper tomorrow to make them look really autumn like.
Have a great afternoon. All our love, Darren, Ayaka and Nanako
