A fun and busy day with orange art and our Teddy Bears Picnic

Buds were so happy today to have their teddy bears in the classroom today. They were often at their side as they did activities. Buds were trying hard to screw and then unscrew the nuts and bolts which is great for their fine motor skills.

What colors make orange the teachers wondered. “Red, yellow” said Karl after seeing the red and yellow paint on the table. We mixed yellow and red paint with sponges and then used the sponges to make some beautiful orange art for the orange page of our color book.

In circle time we sang our name song with our teddy bears dancing in our laps. Then we compared all the teddy bears. Some Buds have brown teddy bears and some have white. Everyone thought their bears were big but the teachers were small so we could see the difference between the big and small bears.

It was fun walking to the park today carrying our teddy bears. The teachers sat our teddy bears on the picnic mat and we had to find them and once we had sat down the teachers held up Buds’ drinks and asked “Whose drink bottle is this?” We modeled some language like “It’s mine” and all our Buds said their names when we asked whose it was. When we held up the snacks and asked Buds got the hang of it and said “Mine/It’s mine” or “That’s mine”. Buds were so happy to have their soft and cuddly bears, bunnies and turtles at the park that they spent part or all of the time carrying them around as they were running, going up and down the slides and kicking the ball.

When we came back we went straight up to Shelley’s class and played at the water table. We got out the fish ice cubes we had made previously and we were happy to see orange fish in the water. “No fish” said Buds when they noticed the fish had melted. To pour the water, which Buds love doing, we used squeezy bottles and small containers. Buds enjoyed transferring the water into the large ice cube trays and back into the water tub.
