A busy day with art, dress ups and sports day practice
08 October – Daily Journal
Today was ‘Wonderful Wednesday’ as we had a busy day in the classroom and the park. Dressing up is infectious in Buds class. Once one child dresses up then another wants to and some days we have 5 or 6 Buds in costumes.
Buds (that were not here yesterday) were very excited to see their friends teddy bear art this morning and wanted to make one first thing this morning. Kaia enjoyed dotting the teddy bear pieces while Faith and Iva used crayons and markers to color theirs. When they were gluing the pieces together we talked about some body parts. “What’s this?” we asked when pointing to the teddy bears’ leg. “Teddy bear” said Iva. (Yes but is it the
arm or leg or head?) “It’s a teddy bear” said Iva again which was correct so re-worded and got some good body part knowledge from Iva with Faith and Kaia helping too.
Karl, Kaia and Yuirka wanted to do extra drawings too so made some to take home.
At circle time we found soft toys with orange on them and walked around with them on our head, shoulder, tummy, cheek and bottom (“Bum!” shouted some Buds). We also held the orange microphone when we sang our name song. Some Buds are getting so close to saying their
name, we see their body language change as they proudly sit up, lean forward, smile and open their mouth, then at the last second they hesitate and the moment is gone. Other friends help and say their name for them.
At story time we acted out ‘Are You My Mother’. All Buds listened and concentrated so well and some Buds helped tell us that the cow, pig, lion etc was not the baby horse’s mother. Finally baby horse found Mummy horse as she came back with some food and they happily ate it together.
Before we went to the park we listened to the song ‘Teddy Bears Picnic’ and then we did the actions to ‘Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear, Turn Around’, finishing up with the teddy bear sleeping.
At the park today we did some more practice for sports day. We tried to kick the ball between two posts. Some Buds could do it really well and others we are encouraging to kick the ball a bit harder, while looking at the direction they want to kick it. We did some more running and Buds all had big smiles as they ran towards Sayaka.
