Sack Racing
We had a fun and busy day today in the classroom as well as in the park. On the table we saw there were some leaf shaped stamps made from foam along with our crayon artwork we made last week. Next to
the artwork were some paint containers with autumn colors. We dipped the stamps in the paint and then applied it to our artwork. We found that the paint didn’t stick too well where the thickest crayons were but it worked quite well where there wasn’t much crayon. On the carpet Nile made a beautiful tower using the ‘Kapla Blocks’ and then she moved to the small table where she enjoyed playing with the magnet shapes. On the main table Marc and Olivia wanted to make the giant leaves we started yesterday. First they decided what shape of leaf they wanted to make
and then chose an autumn leaf colored piece of construction paper. We folded the paper down the center and then drew half a leaf. We then cut the leaf and when we opened it up we saw a beautiful symmetrical leaf. We then used the spare paper to make another leaf picture. Using
markers we then drew in the veins. Ava saw a train puzzle on the table with lots of pieces and wanted to complete it by herself which she did. She looked so proud to have completed it all by herself. In the park we practiced some new activities for sports day next week; the ‘sack race’. We had 5 big sacks and first drew a line in the sand with our feet as well as a finish line. We climbed inside the sacks feet first and then all hopped along until we reached the finish line. It was so much fun and we did really
well not to fall. We will be doing this race next week at the Ohana sports day and so this was great practice for us. When we returned to the classroom we had our library time and read a book titled ‘Ambrose goes for Gold’ about a bug that tries really hard at sports day and eventually wins a medal even though he didn’t expect to. We all got a stamp on our arm or hand
for the sack race this morning just like next week. We finished off our circle time with a little bit of magic. We made a colored matchstick hover in the air by whispering the magic words “Abra Cadabra’ to it. When we put it on a playing card and fanned it with another playing card it magically started to float off the card all by itself. We were amazed to see this and used up lots of our magic power. Have a great
afternoon. All our love, Darren, Ayaka and Nanako
