Happy Friday everyone,
It was a warm morning today. Everyone seems happy to enjoy the warmth even if it is brief some days!
Today on the sensory table we had the class's favorite rice. With spoons and cups ready for scooping and pouring! I came in and went straight to the sensory table ready to practise his fine motor skills. He used the colander and watched all the little grains pile up. N was practising using spoons and pretending to eat the playdoh, he loves imaginative play.
On the malleable table we had green play doh which todays focus was on stamping the different vehicle shapes into the play doh. K saw his favorite fire truck shape and got to work. N, who likes playdoh a lot, was super focused on rolling the playdoh out flat.
On the front table we had the Qclips to help us strengthen those finger muscles. We had to clip the clips onto the shapes. We had caterpillars, fire trucks, boats and more! S smiled and tried to add legs to a bug, he was very happy with himself when he added lots of legs.
Today we had a special craft to cement the idea of recognising ourselves. This task mixed creativity with problem solving! The Buds friends saw their faces but they were all muddled up.
“Oh no! Said L as she saw her jumbled up face.
The task was to glue and stick our jumbled faces back together. K liked using the glue; he held it very nicely and clapped when he finished. N was really happy to see his own face and pointed at himself. L not only did his face but identified where all of his facial features were, nice work!
Our friends did such a nice job of cleaning up today, using team work skills and sharing. Loki was a super star cleaning up the play doh. L was really helpful, passing the utensils to her teachers. R was really helpful and helped clean up the glue sticks.
We sat in a circle and today we did soft tap and soft claps. We could barely hear the noise of our soft taps and claps so we had to use our listening ears.
Lucy drew a big picture on the white board. L told us it was a heart.
We learned that everyone's family is different and that's okay because we got to celebrate our differences. Lucy showed us pictures of special people in our lives and we watched as our friends' faces lit up when they saw their families. We took turns putting our family pictures on the whiteboard. K said “mama!” and he ran to place his family inside the heart. L also giggled as she saw her mom. R said “mama!” “papa!” and she shuffled over to try. S was so protective of his family picture he kept it close to him the entire time.
We practised singing and dancing to “Skidamarinkadink”

We listened to “my family song”

We practiced marching and then when we heard the line “Say Hello To My Family” we ran back to our big heart and waved hello to our families. N was smiling as he saw his beloved family.
Today we did our earthquake drill. We sang head shoulders, knees and toes and Lucy asked us where our heads were. N touched his head and smiled.
“We have to protect our heads in an earthquake”. She said. L demonstrated how to roll up in a ball and cover our heads like a roly poly bug.
We practised the pose and we went out quickly but safely wearing our yellow helmet hats to keep us safe. We said “yes!” after our names as Lucy did a rollcall. Some of our friends said “Yes” in a big voice like K and L. Great job on a safe and efficient earthquake drill guys!
At the park today we took the sand toys to the park close to school and we worked on defining our fine motor skills of pouring and scraping. I loved using the car to make tracks in the gravel it made a nice noise. L enjoyed the spinning wheel. S really bloomed at the park. He enjoyed running around racing Brandon. He picked up handfuls of sand and transported it around the park with a smile on his face.
Thank you for a great week and we are so looking forward to seeing you on Monday for Hina Matsuri.
Love, Buds
