What is a family?
Thursday, January 23rd- what is a family?
Good afternoon Buds families. It was a sunny but chilly Thursday today!
Liezel was helping some of our friends stick some gold pieces of origami paper onto some red paper for our Chinese new year lantern decorations. Red and gold are the luckiest colors in Chinese culture so we wanted to make our room extra lucky. L, Lo and R had so much fun playing with the glue and developing their fine motor skills. Y helped Liezel make the red chain, he was so proud of himself.
On the front table we had some connecting people figures. A was so creative by placing the people inside the jumbo block so that it looked like a bath or a bed. Nice work A. I made a line of people with E. K and his friend I shared the people's figures nicely.
On the back table we had the people's figures. L liked looking at all of the different occupations with T.
At the back of the room we had some jumbo blocks. H and S worked hard to make tall towers. H was so proud of his tower he said “mite!mite” to all of his teachers as he smiled cheekily for a picture.
For circle time today we introduced ourselves. I used a big voice to say his name. Lucy showed us a photo of a baby. Everyone was so interested in the tiny baby.
“That's me!” she said. Then she showed us her mommy and her daddy and a little girl.
“That's my sister. Who has a sister?" she asked and we found out some of our friends have a sister and others have brothers. Some friends don't have any siblings yet. We sang “where is daddy” and sang this about each family member to familiarize ourselves with the words. It was so interesting to learn about our teachers' families and see them as children. When Tamara showed us a picture of her as a baby, H was so happy to see it. L said “baby” in a soft voice.
We danced to some family songs like the sesame “family song” and “we are family” by Sister Sledge. Everyone was so excited to move their bodies and be silly. Lastly it was time to read another lifebook. Lucy reminded us that she had one sister and that some of us had no siblings but others had lots. She told us that in our class we had some siblings. N and E are twins and S, Lo and L are all siblings. We read their life books together and saw them having lots of fun with their other siblings. Lo was so excited to show us his mama and S smiled a big smile when he saw his baba.
After snacktime we went to the park. There is a beautiful mosaic at the back of the park with some animals on it. S and Lo and L sat and held hands together as they admired the animals. R, H, K and I were exploring the soil. T, E and Y had so much fun playing around the water fountain. R and A were running around so fast! T giggled as his teacher Tamara chased him.
We burned off a lot of energy at the park so we were all hungry and ready for lunchtime!
Love,
Buds
