Welcoming our new friend to Petals!

Hello everyone! We hope you all were able to get lots of rest and recovered from our exciting Sports Day yesterday! When we all arrived at school we greeted our friends and teachers then finished up the crafts we have been working on. We played with the play dough and the animal toys for our morning free play time!

We sang our good morning song and welcomed our new friend, J to Petals Class! We are thrilled to have him join us! After we introduced ourselves we did our Petals Class Chant and talked about what we liked about yesterday.

Nimo: Who liked Sports Day?

R: Me!

P: Me!

Nimo: Did you get a gold medal?

K: Yeah!

R: Buds Class too!

D: Flowers (Sash) is red.

Nimo: Do you remember what color Petals’ sashes were?

L: Yellow!

Nimo: Good memory! Who remembers what Bud’s color was?

K: Blue!

Nimo: Fantastic! Red, Yellow, and Blue… What do we call those colors?

L: Primary colors.

P: M’s dress is  yellow!

Nimo: Great! Green, Purple, and Orange are…?

D: Secondary colors!

Nimo: Amazing! What did you like in Sports Day?

R: Squeeze! *Bucket Race*

T: Squeeze, squeeze! *Bucket race?* Yes!

Esmi: Did you like Kaki No Ki?

D: Yeah!

Nimo: What about the Big Pants Race?

L: Me! My mommy and daddy do it!

R: R too! I do with daddy.

M: Obstacle (course)

K: Me, Tamaire! I like Tamaire.

P: Big Pants, me and mommy running!

S: I like big pants too.

B: Big pants!

We did a quick review of the feelings we talked about this week then Nimo began reading, “There’s a Dragon Downstairs” by Hilary McKay and Amanda Harvey.

Nimo: What is a dragon?

L: He has fire in his mouth.

T: *points at his mouth and pretends to breathe fire*

K: Orange dragon.

T: Red!

M: Pink Dragon.

L: It’s big!

T: Yes! Big dragon!

S: *Pointed at the sky in the book* It’s night time.

L: No dragon?!

D: I can see the dragon *pointed at the toy dragon in the book*

K: What dragon? Where!?

T: It’s growing! It’s growing!

M: Dragon?

B: A cat!

P: Meow! Cat!

It turns out the “dragon” making all the ruckus in Sophie’s basement was just their cat!

Today we talked about “fear” which was the scary feeling. We looked at picture of (cute) monsters and spider as our teachers asked us if we were scared of them.

S: Spider! Not scary.

R: Spiders make spiderwebs right?

L: I touch the spiders.

M: M no touch spiders. I don’t like.

We looked at a picture of a fire and our teachers asked us if we would like to touch it.

Petals: No! Scary!

We finished our circle time talking about how it is okay to be scared because it is our brain’s way of telling us something is dangerous and we should stay away from it, just like the fire.

We finished our day doing our earthquake drill then had a great time at the park!

Have a wonderful evening and we will see you all again tomorrow!

Love,

Petals
