Meaning of Our Names
June 5, 2024
Do you know that names have a special meaning? Some may mean ‘brave’, and some may mean ‘kind’. Today in Flower’s class we were all excited to share the meaning of our names. We sat in excitement as we all waited to listen to the Kamishibai.
Circle Time:
After having a great day at the park, we came back to have an exciting circle time! We were all excited because we wanted to listen to Krystal reading the Kamishibai. We all hurried and got ready for our circle time. When we saw the Kamishibai, we all started clapping as we waited for Krystal to open the theater.
Krystal (while showing a picture of a white circle): What do you think this is?
T: Is it an egg or a big, white circle?
Krystal: What do you think is inside of it?
Y: A bird?
Krystal: What do you think this picture is?
T: Is that a mountain?
Krystal: What do we mean by the word, “Dwarf”?
T: Is it an alien from outer space, or a monster?
After our story time, we were all ready to discuss the question of the day! We were happy to share it with our friends since we had to ask our parents what our name meant.
Question of the day: What does your name mean?
M: My mom told me that my name means treasure and beautiful.
O: My daddy give mommy diamond and mommy say, “thank you”.
H: ** means Sun and ** means weave. So, sun weave.
E (while holding a paper with the Kanji written on it) : This “E” is from this and “**” and “**” is made from this. It is Forever string.
E: What do we mean by “string”?
R: My name means treasure.
Then Krystal tells us how she got her name.
Krystal: If great grandma means grandma or grandpa’s mom, what does great great grandma mean?
T: Great grandma is like your old grandma!
H: It is like your grandma’s parents’ parents.
Krystal: How many names do you think I have?
M: 5
H: 7
S: 20
M: 10
T: 6
T: A billion!!
R: 11
R: 500
S: 6
O: 70 billion!!
Krystal: What do you think my name means?
S: A kind of a diamond?
T: My name means sun, and my mummy and daddy named me.
Vieda then explains to us what her name meant and what her name was before.
Vieda: Do you know what is the famous statue in New York called?
T: The statue of the country.
M: The Statue of Liberty.
Then Axel explained what his name meant.
Axel: I was named after Alexander, the conqueror.
S: I know! He made the phones!
T: How did the country get bigger?
Axel: He was a conqueror, that means that he took over other countries to make his countries before.
T: My mommy gave me my name. I don’t know what it means but my mom used to call me treasure!
K: Healthy and Strong.
A: My mommy calls me ** and **.
After our story time, we had a fun activity where we had to use our head to picture something we read. We discussed how imagination was making a picture in our head.
Krystal: What does imagination mean?
R: Think about it but it’s not real.
Krystal: Let us now picture something that we would be doing.
T: I want to picture going on a dinosaur slide.
A: I want to picture eating candy.
R: Playing at the sea. I am gonna dive!
M: I want me, T, and T to go to the moon in a rocket.
T: Surfing by myself.
After this fun discussion, Krystal read us a book without showing us a picture and we had to draw it on a piece of paper!
That’s all for today. See you tomorrow!
Love,
Flowers.
