The sugar in our drinks
Happy Wednesday, everyone!
We had a “tasty activity” yesterday, we were hoping that we would have some more healthy treats today!. “Are we going to eat ice-cream?” Petals asked our teachers.
Sayaka: I know you really liked it but not today. The friends who were not here yesterday, can have their share!
J: Me? I wasn’t here.
Sayaka: Oh yes!
J: I can eat!? *Big smile
Sayaka: Yes! And..A and S, too!
A: Me, too? Oh yes!
T: How about me? I want to eat more..!
M: Healthy ice cream.
E: Vegetables in ice cream!
Teachers: Vegetables?
Petals: haha!
J: When I play with Norbi, I eat ice cream with him.
Then Sayaka asked about healthy food and unhealthy food.
[Healthy food]
M: Grains. Nan, bread, rice, crackers.
R: Salmon, carrots, rice and sauce.
A: Carrots.
E: Potato.
L: Fried potato?
[Unhealthy food]
M: Ice cream.
L: Tomatoes.
M: Chocolate cake.
T: Candy?
R: Ice cream.
S: Ice cream?
R: Cotton candy.
S: Chocolate!
Y: Cake.
J: Beer!
M: Grapes, vegetables. I like it.
J: Grapes are fruits.
E: Cake.
Then Sayaka showed us some pictures of juice, Coca-cola, Fanta, CC Lemon, Milk tea, Orange juice, and 100% apple juice.
M: Mommy drinks this (CC Lemon).
T: Cake.
E: I like it.
L: Tea, it’s healthy water.
Y: Mommy likes tea.
E: Orange juice. I like it.
T: Cola!
R: I only drink it when I go to a restaurant.
T: Cola! Bubble!
R: My mom likes it. Coca-cola!
A: My daddy looooves coca-cola!
The reason why Sayaka was showing us these pictures was to teach us how much sugar was inside them. The number was written under the picture of the drink and it was the number of sugar cubes inside the juice. For example, coca-cola had 17 cubes of sugar. Sayaka showed us the big Lego blocks and we piled up the legos with the number of the sugar cubes. Coca-cola was 17, Fanta was 15, CC Lemon was 15, Milk tea was 12, Orange juice was 13, and 100% apple juice was 8.
After we finished piling up the Lego blocks, Sayaka asked us what drink had the most sugar cube. Petals realized that coca-cola has so much sugar inside! Then some of the petals said that 100% apple juice has less sugar than others. Our friends had a good idea, when we want to drink juice, we should choose 100% fruit juices. Before we started our snack time, we played a “Simon Says” game. It was a bit tricky so Sayaka changed the rules so it was a little easier.
After snack time, we headed to the park and we had a wonderful time!
Ps: We had a great free play time as always. We are getting busier to get ready for our end of year party!
Thank you, see you all tomorrow!
Love,
Petals
