Our Talents and Future Jobs

CIRCLE TIME

We had a fun way of starting our circle time --- by singing! Our teacher helpers were excited when they rolled our music cube and had “Count to 100” on top. We love singing this counting song and are always proud that we can count to 100! Then, we tried working on our rhymes as well. The first round was listening to Vieda, and we would clap when we heard a rhyming pair and put our hands on our shoulders when the words didn’t rhyme. We said, “We want to do it, too!”, so we took turns in giving 2 words and let our friends tell us if they were rhyming or not.

Look at the words that we came up with:

          Mi: dragon/wagon      Ty: Ty/T    Y: T/cow

          Se: door/car              Ta: fork/spoon K: Y/Ke

          M: An/banana     Hi: T/R  Re: meat/kind

          O: Vieda/Axel              Sh: dragon/wagon          T: no/wow

          E: banana/shoe          Cla: apple/eggs          A: Tiger/ Tully

          Ve: Ty/Ti

QUESTION OF THE DAY (Can you choose your job?)

Big thanks to E and Cl for reading today’s question of the day. We giggled as we noticed that everyone answered YES! We were very sure that we could choose our job. We discussed that one way to choose our job is to check what we are good at. The book, This Is Me by Claire Taylor and Tim Budgen gave us an inspiring message about being different and at the same time, looking within us to tap our talents and skills. After our discussion, we shared what we wanted to be when you grow up.

K: When I grow up, I want to be police.

R: When I grow up, I want to be a mommy.

H: When I grow up. I want to protect the earth.

T: I want to be a police with Ke.

Cl: I want to be a firefighter.

A: I want to be a princess. Princess is a job!

We paused for a moment and wondered if princess could be a job. We wondered if perhaps An would like to be seen on TV as a princess, to which she replied, “I want to be on TV!”.  Shelley showed us what a reporter does. We were not quite sure what a reporter does. Theo suggested that “reporters record and collect the sounds of people to make them louder on TV”. Sh added, “I think I know what a reporter is. It’s like the people on the TV before who talked about Israel. It was a little scary, so we turned it off”. It seems like there are a few things a reporter does. Perhaps we could talk more about this profession, and we may be surprised at how many friends in Flowers might be interested in becoming a reporter in the future!

TEACH ME HOW

This year, we are going to have our Teach Me How segment in our circle time. We each will have a turn to show our friends what we can do and share it with them. Someone said, “It’s like we are going to be the teachers!”. Today’s “teachers” were E and Hi. H showed us how to make a rabbit using origami paper, while E showed us how to play a violin. We were so interested in what our friends presented that we could not help but ask questions.

Hi: Today I make origami. It’s a rabbit. Fold in triangle and again, open and in the hole, you go up. Folding down and I put up a thin one. And then finish!

Ta: Where you buy it from?

Hi: Hiroshima

M: How did you make a the rabbit from?

Hi: I fold, and I also make for everyone!

E: I practice my violin for so much time. My teacher put tape on them, so I know where to put my fingers. It has 4 strings.

T: What are the black things (at the end of the violin)?

Ei: My mom helps me twist them.

Th: Where you buy it from?

E: No idea!

Ta: Do you practice every day?

E: I think so.

We had a wonderful time watching Hi and E show us how to do origami and play violin. Thank you so much for sharing your talents with us! We are looking forward to our Friday’s Teach Me How with Re and K.

See you tomorrow! Please remember to come in your Ohana T-shirt/sweatshirt!

Love,
