Preparing for our trip to the grocery store!

We had another fabulous day at school! We started our morning digging up vegetables with the sandy play doh and making our paper police cars! We also played with the lego and made mecha-dinos and towers! We packed away our toys as usual, but instead of starting circle time, we had an early snack. When everyone was finished eating their snacks, we gathered in the library for a story! Today, Nimo read, “The Tiger Who Came To Tea” by Judith Kerr. It was a great story about a big, friendly Tiger who visited Sophie’s house for tea time. However, the big tiger ended up eating all of the food in the house and drank everything too! Sophie and her mommy went to the grocery store to buy all the things they needed and a tin of Tiger food just in case the Tiger came back.

R: What are they going to do? The Tiger drank all the water in the tap, they can’t take a bath.

Nimo: They might need to buy some water or call the plumber.

M: They went to the cafe to eat.

R: I been to a restaurant, they gave us lots and lots of food!

R: I see a moon! *points at the moon in the book*

K: Tiger!

Nimo: What do you buy in the supermarket?

M: I went to the supermarket before. I buy

R: I go with mommy and buy fish.

T: Candy!

B: Blueberry

L: Fish.

Y: Vegetables.

E: I buy cookies and yogurt.

R: Ice cream and candy and som food.

M: French fries and milkshake.

K: Tomato.

S: Food!

After the story, Nimo showed us some pictures and talked about how the vegetables grow in the farm and how it gets into our fridge. He used the food toys to show us all the steps! Then, the told us that we are going to visit the grocery store tomorrow! We talked about keeping our hands to ourselves and making sure to stay together with our friends and teachers.

We moved to our usual circle area and sat down on a blue star. We all wanted to sing the “Good Morning Song” and the “Ohana Song”, but we didn’t have enough time because we need to start practicing our Mom’s Day song! This song has five parts, our teachers made the first part and we need to make the other four parts. Today we made part two. Nimo asked us what we love or appreciate about mom. M had a great idea, “Cooking!”, and so we made a verse about our mommy’s cooking! We practiced part one and two then moved on to our next activity.

Nimo brought our vegetable scraps for our us to examine. After we passed them around and took a good look at them, he asked us if we noticed anything different.

R: It’s a little bit dusty.

M: It’s a little bit dark green.

Ly: This part *green leaves*

E: This is growing big, big, and big!

K: (Onion) Smells like pickles.

Y: It’s an onion. What happened to it?

T: Here big *pointed at the green stem*

R: The color changed, this part is supposed to be green.

E: The onion is a little bit cold.

After we all had a chance to observe the vegetables, Nimo brought a jar full of water and a pipette. We used our pinching fingers to get water into the pipette and then into the vegetable tray.

We quickly got ready for the park and we had fun catching “sakura snowflakes” at the park!

Thank you for another fabulous day! Have a wonderful evening and we will see you again tomorrow!

Love,

Petals
