UK day!

Happy Friday everyone! It’s hard to believe it was raining so hard this morning with all this beautiful sunshine this afternoon! We had another special guest visit us in Petals Class today! It wasn’t a dad or a mom, wasn't grandma or grandpa either… It was J’s big brother K (With A as an assistant)! K wanted to do something for us during international month and he planned an exciting trip for us to the UK! He began by introducing himself.

K: My name is K, I am J’s big brother. I am 8 years old and I am from Japan, Canada, and the UK.

Then he introduced the UK to us.

K: The UK is here *pointed at the world map* It is in Europe and the capital is London. UK stands for the United Kingdom of Great Britain. There are four countries in UK, Ireland, England, Scotland, and Wales.

Then K showed us a special Union Jack, it was split up into many parts and when you put it all together it made the Union Jack. Keita took it apart and showed us each part.

K: The Union Jack is made up of three flags. The Scottish Flag, English Flag, and the Irish Flag. *He showed us each part, then he put them all together* When you put it all together it turns into the Union Jack!

Then K read us a fun book about London, “Busy London” by Marion Billet. It was a fun pull and slide book about the famous parts of London.

K: This is a special bridge called the Tower Bridge. The subway in the UK are called Tubes.

A: You can see the famous Clock Tower here.

J: What is the clock tower?

A: It’s called the Big Ben.

K: This is the London Eye, a big ferris wheel and this is the Royal Palace where the queen lives.

We really enjoyed the story, but K wasn’t done yet! He prepared a fun coloring activity for us! He traced the shapes of the London Bus, the Underground Tube sign, and the Union Jack! We were free to use any color we wanted to color them in! We finished up our exciting UK day with a fun game! K taught us actions for the Tower Bridge, London Bus, Row a Boat, and the London Eye. If he said any of these words we had to do the action he taught us. If he said something else, we needed to freeze! K was very creative and we had a great time! We thanked K for the wonderful day and we gathered in a circle to sing some songs.

After snack time, we did gym class! We did some stretches, then some workouts! Our friends really liked doing burpees! We practiced hanging on the bar and doing our front rolls. We finished gym class with a challenging obstacle course. We continued the discussion from yesterday about Mail Carriers. Our friends all knew they deliver mail and packages to people. Our goal today was to work together and deliver the heavy package to where it needed to go!

Thank you all for another fantastic week! Hope you all have a great weekend and we will see you all again on Monday!

Love,

Petals
