Halo-halo and Evacuation Drill
Happy Friday, everyone! Today was an early dismissal day but quite a different one. Our teachers mentioned that today was also our evacuation drill. In our monthly fire and earthquake drills, we always go down to the gate as our “evacuation”. Today was our first time to practice evacuating our school, and proceeded to Step Park as our evacuation place where our moms and dads picked us up. Sh asked, “What does evacuate mean?”.
Th: Evacuate means that for example, if you take out your shoes, you cannot evacuate.
Be: It means that you cannot stay inside. If you change shoes, you get stuck.
Vieda said that when there’s an earthquake or fire which makes Ohana unsafe to stay at because the building might collapse. Ma shared, “I see next to my house people house broken.”.
Many claps for Flowers for doing a great job in our evacuation drill! Big thanks to our moms and dads for picking us up at Step Park.
QUESTION OF THE DAY (Have you been to the Philippines?)
We were so lucky that one of our Flower friends have been to the Philippines --- Ke! He told us that he saw mangoes in three colors, yellow, green, and red. “I saw fish, too!”. Co added, “Lots of bananas in the Philippines”. As our international months celebration continues, today was the Philippines’ day.
Vieda showed us a delicious looking dessert called “halo-halo” which means to mix. This dessert is like shaved ice, but with lots of sweet beans, bananas, coconut shreds, ice cream and pudding on top of it. People enjoy eating halo-halo during the summer which helps them cool down.
Then, we played one of the traditional outdoor games called where we used our shoes (they use slippers in the Philippines) to knock down a can. The “it” protected the can from being knocked down while the rest of the friends in the circle tried to. We had 2-3 “its” in the middle and tried our best to knock the can down. It was such a fun game and would love to do it outdoors next time.
We hope you will have a wonderful spring break!
See you on the 25th!
Lots of love,
Flowers XOXO
