Our Teeth and Rhymes
Happy rainy Tuesday! Rainy days means fun days indoorđ. Our morning began with the free play area filled with big cork blocks. Mi and Ke were so quick to come up with a plan to build Spidermanâs house. Later, Re joined them who gave an idea of re-building the house! What amazing teamwork! For table activities, we had small white boards to put small magnetic letters. Y and Ma enjoyed singing the alphabet song while looking for the corresponding letter! It was such a cute sight to behold! For our craft, we continued working on our face mosaics where we glued art collage materials on our face, except for our eyes, nose, and mouth. Could you tell whose face it is once the photo is covered with art materials? Let the fun begin!
DANCE TIME
Many thanks to Maryna for coming to Flowers to teach us new dance songs! Our dance numbers this time, talk about our moms. Yes, we have just started working on our Momsâ Day presentations. We found the words of the songs very sweet and fun! We hope our moms will enjoy our dance presentations as much as we enjoy performing them!
CIRCLE TIME
We love rhymes! We enjoy listening to two words and deciding if they rhyme or not. We had an activity where we took turns in giving two words. We put one hand out for each word, and our friends would clap if they thought the words rhyme or put their arms across their shoulders if they donât. Please find our word pairs below:
Mi: hot air balloon / balloon Th: cat / hat Ma: toy / dog
Gr: cat / hat Ei: rock / sock Y: hat / pat
Ke: bone / neck Cl: boat/car T: E/Th
O: Se / Th Sh: boat/toy R: cat / hat
M: toy / boy Ve: cat/hat A: Re/work
Ta: goat/boat R: toy/die
It was exciting to have our rhyming ears on and get the answers so easily! When we heard Râs pair of words, we were stunned! Do toy and die rhyme? R mentioned that the word âdieâ that she gave was not the one that was ichi-dai, ni-dai in Japanese. Hi said, âI know! Die mean you cannot but still breathing, you not die. If you die, you cannot do anythingâ. T then added, âYou didnât have the same beginning sound, so I know itâs not rhyme. Itâs okay if itâs not right!â. It was a little challenging for us to come up with the answer, so this will be our homework. Do you think toy and die rhyme? Please share your answer tomorrow!
T: tiger / Ty Ke: bone/boat Gr: balloon/bubble T: air/pear
H suggested that âwe can do (rhymes) in our home and practice by ourselvesâ. We are excited to hear more of your rhyming pairs!
STORY TIME (Mermaid Mia and the Royal Visit by Lara Ede and Rosie Greening)
Our story today had several interesting words which we enjoyed learning about! Who ever wondered what âmake it upâ meant? Ma suggested, âitâs making somethingâ while Sh shared, âItâs something that we donât have in real, and we make itâ. Then Th said, âI think with my brain, and I make it up. Like my story in Phonics yesterday, I make it upâ. Another word that we encountered was âfakeâ. Th gave us an example of what fake could mean. He said, âFor example, if thereâs a horsey statue and you say, âhey look! A real horsey!â. We are so blessed to have friends who have so many ideas about what words meanđ Todayâs story gave us insight into what happens when we make up things and thus learned that nothing beats being truthful!
QUESTION OF THE DAY (Do you have 10 teeth?)
Big thanks to Ke and Ve for reading todayâs question. We had 15 friends who said no, and 3 in yes. We had a very interesting exchange of ideas as the discussion went longer and longer! Hereâs what we shared with our friends:
Mi: All human beings have 20 teeth.
Ri: El have 8!
H: Baby have zero teeth!
Ty: My baby has one up here and two in the bottom.
Sh: We have a baby at home in my home and they have growing teeth. We need to wait. He have something to bite so itâs not ouchie.
Cl: I only have 17, so I said no.
Y: (showed us the gap due to his lost tooth) Tooth fairy took it! I fall and I break my tooth!
R: In my home when I fall down. Two teeth.
Hi: My brother teeth fell off.
Th: If your teeth come off, you need to wait 60 years and then March 4th through December.
Ri: I think grandpaâs teeth donât grow.
M: Grandma is so soft!
Ke: My grandma have no teeth. The teeth get out of the mouth!
Re: I think if my grandma donât have teeth, we not gonna come back to baby again, so our teeth wonât come back!
Talking about teeth, we couldnât keep ourselves from wondering what could possibly happen if we didnât have our teeth!
Hi: My daddyâs grandma donât have teeth. Only tongue. She can say arigato!
Mi: You cannot eat hard things.
T: You need to eat with your lips, so you cannot eat seaweed. Because seaweed gets stuck in your teeth. Then it will get stuck, and you need to gargle to get it off.
R: You cannot eat hard candy.
Gr: My baby brother, the teeth coming out in the bottom. A lot of them! My brother is one.
Now we realize how important our teeth are. We must take care of them because as some of our friends shared, our teeth help us to eat and talk. In the next few days, we will explore the things we can eat and do to take care of our teeth.
