Plastic Rubbish

Happy Wednesday! We had an amazing day today.

“Good morning!” We greeted our friends and teachers. We started our day with free play time. For our free play time, we had play dough, kitchen toys, and cars! With Evita, we had a painting activity. We enjoyed mixing the paint. “I wanna do that!” We asked our teachers for the painting activity. We started cleaning up the toys around 9:15 a.m.

We gathered for circle time. We sang one of our favorite songs which is the "Morning Greeting Song". “What is your name?” We asked all our friends. After we finished the song, Sayaka started explaining about today. “We will have two groups for our circle time.” She explained how we will do two groups for today’s circle time. Before that, we had an interesting discussion about a mystery in Petals Class… A and Y found “something” yesterday at the park. It looked like a fruit but they were not sure and asked Sayaka if they could take them back. Sayaka showed what they found. Hmm…What are they? We opened our eyes wide and looked at them very carefully.

Y: I picked them up!

T: T! *He pointed out.

A: Maybe it’s a pineapple.

R: Lime? I think it’s a lime!

Y: Kaki? *Big smile

Sayaka: Persimmon?

Y: *Nodded his head.

I: Pineapple.

L: Apple.

M: Tomato?

Te: Tomato.

R: Banana but it’s not ripe.

Sayaka: What do you think E? What are they?

E: E!! *Big smile.

R: Pineapple.

Y: Pineapple.

S: Banana.

L: Cat!

Sayaka: What we can do with this to know what they are…

M: *Showed his hand and pretended to cut.

Sayaka: Oh cut? Should we cut it out?

Petals: Nodded heads.

Sayaka then told us that we would keep them on the teacher’s desk. Then we can see, smell, and/or touch. We will find out what they are soon!

After that, one group did circle time with Sayaka. The other group did an art activity with Evita and had a table activity with Nimo. The group with Sayaka reviewed what we learned with Evita. Rafi shouted out, “Garbage!” That is right, Rafi! Today we learned about a kind of garbage. Paper is burnable trash, food is also burnable trash. Then we have plastic trash, and plastic bottles/cans. Sayaka showed us our trash boxes and explained about it. Then she did story time for us. The Little Red Hen by PAUL GALDONE is the book of today. The story was about the Red Little Hen who always works hard. The hen asks the cat, mouse, and dog to help her but nobody was willing to help her. The hen baked cake and she did all the chores by herself…The cat, mouse, and dog asked her for the cake. Can you guess what happened? The hen ate all by herself! Since then the cat, mouse, and dog never refused to help her. Sayaka then added that little more... The cat, mouse, and dog were busy with helping the hen so they asked Petals to find some trash and throw it away! Sayaka showed us the mystery box. The box was covered with a blanket and there were some kind of trash inside the box. Sayaka explained how to play the game. Sayaka picked up one piece of trash and it was plastic! “I want to try that!” We asked her.

R volunteered to try first and found the plastic.

I: Plastic!

M: Present paper.

L: Paper.

M: What is it…?Plastic?

Y: Paper..? Plastic?

A: Paper.

Y: Paper.

We’ll done! We put all the trash inside the garbage bin.

After that, we had snack time all together and had outside playing time. Today is our first time to go to the temple. While we were playing, it started raining so we decided to go back to school.

We had a wonderful day and see you all tomorrow!

Love,

Petals
