Let's Learn Ballet
“Scribbling” Movements
How can we “concretize” movements?
One of the ways we thought of being able to see what movements look like was through scribbling. When we move our hand in circles, what does it look like? When we move our arms from side to side, what does it look like?
N, L, M, E, and I all took turns exploring the concept of how movements would look like through scribbling.
When “jumping”, scribbles looked like zig zag lines
When arms are like the wings of an airplane, scribbles looked like crooked straight lines with a few curves and waves
When we spin, scribbles looked like spirals
Sculpting Dance Moves through Claydough and Sticks
Another way we thought of “concretizing” movements was through sculpting claydough. Our favorite form of claydough to make were balls and strips. With claydough formed into a ball, we could roll it from one point to another. With claydough formed into strips, we could dangle and swing it from side to side.
R, T, and B tried out different movements that they could think of using the claydough. They even thought of “stomping” by inserting popsicle sticks into it.
Musical Instruments
It is more fun to move when music is played as we allow the rhythm to dictate the flow of our bodies.
A and M bonded by exploring how they could move the bells and special “frog” instruments that make a croaking sound.
The Trains Go “Choo-Choo-Choo!”
N preferred to explore the concept of movements through trains. Why do trains stop moving on one point of the track? Could it be because some parts of it got broken? Or was it because it was blocked?
N explored the possibilities of why a train would stop moving by engaging in a discussion with a teacher.
Outdoor Play
We left the school together with our friends from Flowers Class for our Outdoor Play. We played chase and tug of war with them.
Circle Time
Goh San led Circle Time by showing us some moves that she does during her ballet classes. We learned how to do the plie, releve, and saute. We gracefully danced to the music from “Swan Lake” and gave a big bow afterwards.
We hope everyone is having a great Tuesday so far!
Love,
