Are their Flowers in America?

Playdough Flowers

Inspired by the “GREEN” area of Step Park and the nature walks we take while out at the park, green colored playdough was brought out for us to play. To represent the beautiful colorful flowers, colorful feathers, plastic mosaics, and fuzzy wires were also added to this station.

This station intends to have our younger friends enjoy sensory play. Our older friends are tasked to use their creativity in making flowers and be role models to their younger friends. Here’s what happened:

K was busy making a long “stream” of flowers using playdough and feathers. I, who was sitting beside her, observed her the entire time and started to mimic what Kako was doing by forming long strips of playdough and inserting feathers into it. While this was happening, R stayed on one end of the table observing what I was making. When I left the station, R took a closer look at what she made and shared his thoughts about it to Erika.

K is stepping up to be one of our class’ leaders! While in this station, she took initiative in looking after M in making sure she does not get playdough in her mouth!

G thought of using her elbows to flatten balls of playdough

While this was happening, N came by to give us a laugh by showing up with her “castanet” sunglasses

Painting Birthday Canvases and Butterfly Wings

Together with Hisami, our upcoming birthday celebrants (K and L) painted on their canvases! K preferred to use the colors red, yellow and green while L preferred using only red and yellow.

On the other end of the table, several of us used dot markers & paint to decorate halves of coffee filters. E preferred using paint rollers whereas T & R preferred using dot markers.

Shooting Balls inside Red Buckets

Together with Liezel, S, R and L bonded by showing off their impressive skills by shooting balls inside red buckets. Can you guess who had the highest score?

While some were b busy shooting balls, R enjoyed playing with large Lego blocks with Maryna out at the balcony.

Circle Time

For Circle Time, we again danced to Jason Mraz’s “I Feel Like Dancing”. After having a dance off, we settled down to sing Nat King Cole’s “L-O-V-E”. We were given scarves and ribbons when we were able to proudly say our names out loud.

To the tunes of Furns’ “Jangala” and Young-Holt Unlimited’s “Soulful Strut”, we shared different ways on how we can use the scarves and ribbons in sync with the music. It was wonderful to see Ibrahim smile as he watched the gentle falling of the scarves from up above.

Using Hervé Tullet’s book “Imagine”, we had a recap that butterflies flutter around flowers. When the page had a shadow picture of the Statue of Liberty, W and K immediately answered, “IN ODAIBA!” Yes, there is a similar statue in Odaiba yet the original statue can be seen in faraway land called “America”. We looked at the world map to check how far Japan is from the Americas.

We were also asked if perhaps there are flowers in America just like here in Japan. Most of us answered “No” yet we look forward to discovering what really is in the Americas.

Outdoor Play

During our walk to the park, our class was given a carrier to help transport friends who are strengthening their lower bodies to walk. We were able to reach the park faster and had a great time playing with friends from Petals Class.

We hope all of you are having a great Tuesday so far!

Love,

Buds Class Children
