Can all animals be pets?
Welcome back to another day in Flowers Class! Today was a funny one. We did soooooo many things!
Thank you for joining us in our adventures!
MORNING ACTIVITIES
With the different events happening in our school, we have a lot of things to prepare. First, we started by our “Thank you” gift for the police station with Cameron. Some friends wrote their names and others draw a police car, police officers etc. It was really cool to see how our little Flowers children were letting their imagination run free!
On another table, they were busy with hand printings for their end of the year craft! First, Vieda was painting their palms with black paint and then they were sticking them on construction paper. For what, would you ask… that’s a surprise for later so we won’t tell you now!
On the last table of this morning, some Flowers continued our collaborative art, since the painting on construction paper is done, we had to decorate the form that we painted the other day by using white glue and little plastic decorations. Some friends were putting glitter, some others decided to use little plastic flowers, shapes, and other shinny things. It was all up to them and their tastes. The result is really cool!
On the side, some friends preferred to play with Kapla blocks and magnetic plastic blocks. Y. built a spaceship while C. made a water shooting robot. M. on her side made a school and was pretending that there was the Flowers Class inside!
After having so much fun, it was time for us to eat our snack. Although, today we didn’t have the time to go outside because we were holding a special event…K.’s birthday!!
K.'S BIRTHDAY PARTY
His mom and his brother came into the classroom and our Flowers Friends recognized them directly!
A.:It’s Y.!
H.: Her name is M.
Then, we gathered around K. for his special day. But he was missing something…What do we need to have a happy birthday?
Y.: Crown.
S.: Birthday card.
K. then asked two friends to come to give him his crown and birthday card:
C.: I love you.
A.: I love you, K..
So sweet, thank you friends! Then we sang the “Happy birthday” song in different languages: we did English, Japanese, Chinese, Lithuanian and even French!
After that, since K. turned 5 years old, we could ask him 5 questions:
R.: Happy birthday K., I love you! Where did you go yesterday?
K.: I go Ohana.
M.: What is your favorite cake?
K.: A strawberry cake.
B.: Where is your house?
K.: My house is going Nishimachi then my home Azabu-Juban.
G.: Happy birthday K., I love you!
E.: Where have you been?
K.: I go camping. I catch fish and then do barbecue.
Sh.: What did you do yesterday?
K.: I read book.
Then K.’s mom presented us an important Japanese celebration for children that K. did recently, a tradition called: Shichigosan. She asked our Flowers friends: “Do you know what shichigosan is?”
R.: The girl is 3 years old and 7 and the boy is 5. And eat Shitose ame.
K.: I have belt, and this is sword!
After her nice presentation, she answered our friends’ questions:
T.: I’ve been to the picture thing before with my grandparents.
G.: I’ve been there before.
M.: I have been there before, in the picture.
E.: What is your favorite flavor of cupcake?
K.: Chocolate and vanilla.
R.: What is this?!
Ty.: Why do you like ice cream? What is your favorite ice cream flavor.
K.: Chocolate ice cream.
Oh, I see! Now we know a lot about Shichigosan! Thank you!! To finish celebrating K.’s birthday his mom, M. and his brother, Y., gave us presents and cupcakes! That’s so nice!
Thank you again for this lovely birthday party! We had a lovely time, and I am sure that K. did too!
Sadly, it was soon time for our guests to leave. After saying goodbye, we gathered to start our circle time!
CIRCLE TIME
We started our circle time by B., who wanted to share what she made with her mom:
B.: I made yesterday with my mommy a TV. And this is the remote. If you want you can try to put your head inside.
Then she started going around our circle and let everyone who wanted to try it have a turn. It was really super funny.
After this, we sang our “cookie jar” song and got asked what flavor of cookies we had!
V.: Watermelon.
Y.: Strawberry.
K.: Melon.
C.: Chocolate.
R.: Water cookies!
A.: Rainbow flavor, it’s all the flavors.
Then, after having fun singing, Axel asked us a few questions: “Do you remember what we asked you yesterday?”
T.: Do animals drink water?
G.: Some animals can be a pet?
“What animals can we have at home?”
Y.: Fish.
E.: Worms. They only have a mouth.
M.: A hamster.
A.: A dog.
T.: A salamander.
“Then, do you think that, for example, a desert scorpion can be a pet?”
E.: No because scorpions can sting you.
A.: No, other animals that have sharp things cannot be pet.
R.: This is ouchie
C.: Dinosaurs have this one.
V.: No.
K.: No, because it’s ouchie. He can do ouchie and then you can die.
M.: No, they will stuck us.
B.: No, because his claws are ouchie too.
K.: Scorpions have poison in the ouchie one.
G.: they have sharp legs and sharp mouth.
T.: The scorpion can be a pet. I have a scorpion pet. I have a glass cage and I feed her but she doesn’t sting me.
C.: Can a crab be a pet?
E.: I think they can be pets. They spit dots and dig tunnels.
M.: I think yes because they don’t gonna sting us.
A.: We cannot have it because they have the sharp feet.
T.: It cannot be a crab because it’s dangerous. It can fight with the big claw thing and I don’t want the crab to fight.
G.: G. has a happy crab at home.
Since our Flowers friends seemed to be divided on the question, our teacher asked us: “Can dangerous animals be pet?”
A.: No because pets are friendly and nice. Dangerous animals are not even sharing, they just take it.
B.: You need to have it when it’s a baby and when it grows up it’s not dangerous because it knows people.
M.: No because some of the animals will sting and be dangerous.
T.: If you get inside the home, the cheetah will eat you because he thinks that you are meat.
H.: Some cheetah can be a pet because they can protect people.
S.: If you put a cheetah in your house, it will break everything.
I see that we got a lot of different opinions on the questions. Let’s try to answer our question of the day now! Axel asked a few friends to try to read the question for us.
K.: Do you pet?
G.: Can animals be pets?
A.: Can all animals be pets?
L.: Yes! All animals can be pets for me.
B.: The cheetah can be a pet because from baby the dangerous animals can be pet.
M.: Yes because some of the animals can fight if the animal is dangerous.
R.: No because they gonna break the house.
R.: No because big elephant cannot be because you need to a big house.
A: No because other animals that live in the zoo are dangerous.
Ty: No because my mommy said no.
Then we played a game, we were supposed to sort animal figurines in two categories: “Pet” and “Not a pet”.
M.: (Fish) No, because if some of the water gets in the home, other sea animals will come.
T.: (Reindeer) Yes because it’s friendly.
C.: (Hippopotamus) No because the poo will be giant.
K.: (Frog) Yes, because frog is friend, and he can sleep in the house.
Y.: (Lamb) No.
R.: (Tiger) Yes.
B.: (Pig) Yes because they can be outside in the farm.
V.: (Elephant) Yes!
S.: (Bear): No because it’s too dangerous and big.
G.: (Panda): Yes because I don’t know.
E.: (Snake) No because snakes slither around and say “sss” and have a long tongue.
R.:(Cat) Yes because it’s not doing anything like scratching.
C.: (Horse) Yes.
L.: (Dog) Yes because it’s a pet!
R.: (Cheetah) No because it hurts.
H.: (Cow) Yes because they make the milk for us so it’s pet!
That’s a nice observation H., do you think that the cow is a pet because it can help us? We can maybe ask our parents tonight and discuss about it tomorrow!
Wow! Our Flowers Class friend had a looooooot to discuss with us today!
Thank you for reading our journal and see you tomorrow for more adventures!
Lots of love,
Flowers Class Children.
