What is "Fall"?
Thursday, October 19th 2023
Wow! Today was another funny day in Flowers class, we played, we danced, we went outside, and we did many other things! Thank you for reading our journal, we hope that you will have as much fun as us.
MORNING ACTIVITIES
We were happy to see that our teachers prepared a new set of toys for us. There were wooden construction blocks on the ground that K., B., and Re. used to build a house for the little animal figurines. Next to them were other blocks that were really colorful, it’s fun because when we try to look through it, we see the world in different colors! V. took the red one and was walking around saying: “It’s red, it’s red”. Other friends also used them to build different buildings and other types of structures.
On another table, we had… finger puppets and people figurines! Flowers friends love to play with them and to pretend to be in a lot of funny situations, R. for example was saying that her lady finger puppet was a princess in a castle!
Some other friends were busy crafting their own window self-portraits. They started by sticking colorful papers on a cardboard sheet before sticking a portrait of themselves on it. Then, the teacher asked them to write a sentence behind it, about what they are good at before hanging the portraits on the windows of the classroom.
But soon it was already time for us to clean up our things because the teachers had something they wanted to talk about.
EARTHQUAKE DRILL
Today at Ohana International School was our monthly earthquake drill, but we didn’t know! Axel asked us to gather around and started asking us questions:
“Do you know what an earthquake is?”
A.: The ground shakes!
Th.: We go under the table.
B.: And if there is no space, you can go to a different place.
A.: We have a hat that can protect us in our black box. Only take that hat, nothing else. Empty hands!
“But how do we know when an earthquake is coming?”
Sh.: There’s a gigantic wave and we call that a tsunami.
T.: Only just the stairs, not elevator.
E.: The grounds shift.
B.: My mommy helped the tsunami, the kids.
A.: We hear the music for earthquake or fire.
Sh.: I heard something from my mom and dad’s phone. It keeps saying “earthquake”.
A.: If we are taking the elevator, the power might go out and you will be stuck.
B.: If the stairs are too hot, we can we a ladder.
Then, for the drill, the earthquake alarm rang. Our Flowers friends went quietly under the tables and followed the teacher’s instructions.
After, Maryna came to our classroom for our daily dance lesson. Remember that we are preparing a big Halloween show? You will be surprised to see how good we can sing and dance! Our Flowers friends seem to be enjoying those classes a lot because we could hear a lot of laughter and see a lot of smiles!
Once the class was over, we headed out to Step Park. It was beautiful outside; the sun was shining, and the birds were singing. No clouds around. When we arrived, we saw that our Petals class friends were using the slides and the swings, so we decided to join them! E. and G. enjoyed going down the blue slide while V. and T. went down the big one. Ty. and Y. even met some of their friends from another school! It was really a fun time!
CIRCLE TIME
As soon as we came back from the Step Park. We gathered for our circle time. After singing a song, we sat and the teacher showed us an autumn leaf and while pointing at the veins of the leaf, he asked us a few questions:
“What are these?”
Th.: Lungs!
Sh.: Vines!
Ty.: Vines!
V.: Yellow.
E.: They are called veins.
Ty.: Vines are where the monkeys jump and swing.
T.: It’s green.
E.: The whole of the leaf is green.
Then we were asked: “Why do you think the color changed?”
Th.: Because it’s autumn.
E.: Because it’s autumn and the leaves change color.
R.: First they be yellow and they older and they go down.
C.: This is green and this is rainbow.
H.: Some leaves don’t change.
Y.: Because this one is not gonna change color.
E.: The green leaf is a summer leaf.
Then, our teacher told us a big word: chlorophyll. He told us that leaves change colors when they don’t have much chlorophyll left in them.
A.: So that one is yellow because it doesn’t have much chlorophyll left.
That’s right A.! In Autumn, leaves don’t have much chlorophyll left in them so that’s why they change colors.
E.: Green, yellow, and brown.
H.: Some leaves don’t change.
After they fell on the ground, do you know what happens to the autumn leaves?
R.: Someone take.
A.: They’ll get dirty. That’s why they’re brown!
E.: The leaf will stay on the ground forever.
Hmm. It seems that our friends don’t know yet, that’s ok because we can ask our parents today when we come back home!
QUESTION OF THE DAY (Do you know what “fall” is?)
K.: Do you fall down?
E.: Do you know what fall is?
Th.: It’s like a season.
B.: There is four: Spring, Summer, Autumn and Fall!
R.: Summer finish and today like Aki in japanese and then brown finish and another season.
B.: Before fall it was summer!
What is special about fall in Ohana International School, what happens next week? Are you coming to Flowers Class?
A.: It’s holiday.
B: Vacation.
Y: My daddy is doctor.
Sh: I will go to a special place, but I don’t know!
R: I am gonna go to Wakayama.
Ty.: I am going to plane somewhere.
G.: G. gonna go with Mommy, Daddy, and baby to birthday party.
Th.: I don’t know what I am doing.
K.: I don’t know.
A.: I think I am going to the shinkansen museum!
Oh no, it was already time for our lunch. The conversation was so interesting that we didn’t see the time passing by!
Thank you, a lot, for joining us in our adventures,
See you tomorrow for more!
Lots of Love,
Children from the Flowers Class.
