Are You Married?
Happy Friday! In Flowers, music is such a big part of our learning. Our routines are prompted by songs, and we even sing about the things that we are learning. A really likes our Months of the Year song that she asked if we could sing it one more time today, which we did! We enjoy singing about the greetings around the world especially those countries that our friends are from. We can’t wait to have celebrate International Months next month and learn more about our friends’ countries. Thank you, dear moms and dads, for planning to come and share things about your beautiful countries!
CIRCLE TIME
We looked at our calendar and since it was the 27th of January today, we tried counting up to 27! Wow, 27 is a big number for us to count. D said, “I’m going to celebrate my friend’s birthday, but only boys can come to the party”. Speaking about birthdays, we remembered that it will be S’s “real” birthday on Monday. We counted the number of “numbers” left on January month, and we laughed when we realized that there are only 4 left!
So, we flipped the next page of our calendar and Ky said, “It’s February, next month!”. Be asked, “Why is the date red here?”. We talked about what these specially colored “numbers” are all about. For us, there are 3 days that stood out in the month of February.
*February 1st : B’s birthday party AND Flowers’ real shopping day
After Be’s birthday party, our much-awaited shopping day follows! Real shopping calls for money to purchase.
Ri: I have lots of money. I have big paper money from my ojichan.
A: I don’t have paper money in my pocket.
Hi: Everyone have card money at home.
*February 10th: Staff Day (No school day for us. Only teachers come to Ohana)
Au: I know what you’re going to do on that day. You will be busy on your computer and work in front of your TV.
Ky: Oh, I think the teachers are having a party.
A Are you going to have a party?
C: I think teachers going to talk to our mommy and daddy on the computer.
*February 23rd: Dad’s Day. We can’t wait to have our dads in come and celebrate Dad’s Day in Flowers. Some of our friends volunteered their dads to have a magic show because “my dad knows so many tricks”, and that “he can say a lot of silly jokes for us!”. We will be more than happy to have a magic show with Dads as the magicians. Please let us know if you’d like to be our “Magician of the Day” on our Dad’s Day😊
MORNING ACTIVITIES
We had so much fun making our vehicles using tissue rolls and collage materials. Those who were not able to do theirs yesterday, were excited as they made their vehicle craft. Our friends’ creations are real gems added to our transportation treasure!
On another table, we had a chat about what people who get married look like, and what we think what it meant getting married. Our teachers were all amazed at how our drawings and our ability to share what we were thinking when we drew them.
DANCE CLASS
Many thanks to Maryna for teaching us a new dance number today. It was not just a dance, but also a song about the days of the week.
STORY TIME (Shitakiri Suzume, English version: The Tongue-Cut Sparrow by Miyoko Matsutani, illustrated by Seiichi Horiuchi, translated by DonnaTamaki)
Today’s story time was kamishibai or paper theater. We felt a little concerned about the incident between the wife and the sparrow. At the end of the story, we looked at each other and asked, “So, what happened with the sparrow and the old woman?”. We thought that the moral of the story are to be nice to everyone, gifts are not to be demanded, and that big things are not always the best.
QUESTION OF THE DAY (Are you married?)
Today’s question made us giggle. We thought that it was a funny question. Please read our comments below:
Ke: Mommy said, yes. Mommy wear dress.
C: Yes, because mommy tells me in America. She said she looks like a queen.
R: If you married, you look like a princess.
Ky: Children are not married but my mommy and daddy married because she love him.
A: Kids are not married because they’re not ready to get married.
Sh: If you are from Israel then you can get married.
Ki: When you’re married, you can kiss and hug.
Au: if you’re married, they have their own room. They can do anything they want.
K: If you don’t get married, everything will be quiet. And you do anything you want!
K: A boy and girl marry together because they like each other. They hold hands and get married and then they go home together.
We had so many things about getting married that we wanted to share but we ran out of time. For now, we learned some reasons why people get married. And it’s also okay not to get married if you don’t want to. We liked the special outfits people who get married wear. We are looking forward to hear other’s ideas about this topic next week.
Please have a wonderful weekend!
Love,
Flowers XOXO
