Doing Things with Our Feet

Happy Monday and Happy Respect for the Aged Day! It’s the beginning of another great week here in Flowers Class.

We started today by talking about what we all did during the weekend.

Hi: I eat grapes, they were yummy!

Au: I already got my toys. I went to Kogai Park yesterday night with my Daddy. Daddy was catching me and he can’t catch me because I’m super fast.

Da: I go to the park and swimming pool and I eat lunch. I went to Kogai Park and I saw Au.

Cameron: Au, did you see Da at the park?

Au: No, I didn’t.

Ka: I draw a picture a slide and swing, trees and clouds.

Ar: I went to America. Otomari with mommy and daddy.

Ti: Otomari means stay in the building.

Ti: I ate pizza and I went to Kogai Park, but I went after Da. I can only see him going home. He was outside the park and I was inside the park, because I went on the night. Yesterday a cockroach came when I was eating ice cream. It was trying to eat my ice cream. Somebody step on the cockroach. The ants ate the cockroach. It came from the garbage. I saw three cockroaches. They were working together to get my food.

Be: I went to the gym, just run two times, then I went home.

Au: At day I went to Kogai Park, when it start to get dark I went to home then I eat then I sleep. Then when I wake up I went to the elevator then go to school.

Then we reviewed our sense of touch and how it works.

Au: hands are touching things. You can pick up things with your hands.

Ti: Skin

Be: Skin everywhere

We thought about how skin helps us feel things.

Hi: Touch soft

Au: You can feel the cars.

We wondered if our hands are the only body part that can feel things.

Ti: You can feel with my back of our head. You can feel a pillow on our head.

Cameron: What does a pillow on the back of your head feel like?

Da & Ti: It feels soft.

Then we talked about our Question of the Day (Can you feel with your feet?)

Au: We can feel ice when you put in the freezer. Ice is cold.

Ka: We can feel the street with my feet

Au: When I’m riding the bike.

Vieda lined up five different textures on the floor for us to feel with our feet. These are some of the ways that we described what we felt.

Ar: ticklish, hard, hard, hard too, it’s soft

Ka: ticklish, hard, hard, hard, soft

Hi: soft, ouchie, ticklish, soft, soft

Be: hard, hard, hard, hard, soft

Ti: it’s scratchy, kind of hard, this one’s bumpy, this one’s a little soft, and this one’s the softest.

Da: hard, hard, hard, hard, soft

Au: a little ticklish and hard, it’s a little sticky, ticklish sticky, this is the softest.

Br: hard, hard, ticklish, hard, soft

An: ticklish, hard, hard, ticklish, soft

Story Time: The Soles of Your Feet by Genichiro Yagyu

This book helped us understand more about our feet and the feet of other living things. We saw footprints and hand prints of a gorilla and noticed how they were different than ours. Then we paired up with a partner and compared our feet to each other’s. On one of the pages someone said that the sand burned their feet. Why would the sand burn our feet?

Ti: Because the sun is hot. The sun is a big star and it’s really hot. The sand gets hot because the sun is hot.

Next, we played some games that would show us more about what we can do with our feet. Vieda and Cameron tickled our bare feet with a paintbrush. We were all nervous about what it would feel like and worried about how ticklish it must be! But, when the paintbrush touched our feet, we realized that it wasn’t that bad.

Then we tried to grab things with our feet. We grabbed a ball and tried passing it to our friend using only our feet. We were all able to do it quite quickly. We tried passing a pen with our feet next. This was a little more difficult than the ball. Shelley even joined us for this game. It took a lot of concentration and effort from everyone, but we succeeded.

Lastly, before we put our socks and shoes back on, we put our feet in yellow and orange paint and danced along to some music on top of white paper. We were able to feel what paint feels like on our feet and see our own footprint on the paper.

We all wanted to go to Kogai Park again today, because we had so much fun on Friday. But, before we could decide, it started to rain. So, we split up into teams and played some more games using our feet inside. We all had a nice day as we continued to learn about ourselves.

Have a great evening and we will see you all tomorrow!

Love,

Flowers XOXO
