Stick and Stack!

Stick Stack Station:

Playing with threads and sticks became our favorite things to do. One of our tables had small wooden cubes, small wooden bobbins, fruit beads, threads, wooden sticks, popsicles with holes and a “Counting Stacker” toy. We created many structures by using our imaginations and combining these materials. Y tried to put small wooden cubes onto the “Counting stacker” toy but he found out that its sticks were too fat for them so he did an experiment “What can fit on the stacker?”. He tried a couple of different things and finally, he found the match! Only the blocks which were made for the “Counting Stacker” can go through the sticks, holes on the other materials were too small. Trying things out and finding the answer by ourselves are important to us and this is the way we learn. What did others do at this station? W liked putting fruit beads on a stick and showed it to teachers, he said “This is so yummy!”... it looked yummy indeed! S also tried it with Tamara and made delicious fruit sticks too. R tried to put a stick into a hole of a popsicle. It looked frustrating and we heard him saying “Mmm!” with an upset face but at last, he made it and he got back a big smile on his face again.

Salt Art:

We added colors to the art piece that we worked on yesterday. There were containers with red, blue and yellow paint and a plate filled with SALT. After finishing her morning job, K came close to the table, and said “I want to do this one!”. Seila showed her what would happen when we mix salt with diluted paint and she was amazed at how the salt dissolved in water! Touching wet salt was another fun thing to do due to its “rough” texture. N enjoyed squeezing all three sauce containers and seeing different colors come out. She was holding up a container to signal to her teachers that she is about to get into some messy fun! She went around the table and splattered paint  everywhere on the art work. L found it fun to squeeze out as much paint as he could and noticed the puddles it made. When L was making puddles, E came to see what we were doing at the art table. She saw puddles of paint, took a spoon and made waves by playing with the water. She also scooped colored water into a cup. S liked to see what E was doing and stayed there for a while. We are curious learners who enjoy observing each other to learn fun & interesting new things from one another.

Leaves & Pinecones:

Today we saw leaves, pinecones, playdough toys on the sensory table. K and Y took some leaves, went to the kitchen and placed them in a pot. They were cooking something together! There are many ways to play with leaves. Ripping, touching, looking at it and adding to our favorite type of play.

Circle Time:

Teachers asked us if we sang our “Morning Song” yesterday… K remembered it clearly and said “No!”. K was right, it was “Good night, good night, how do you do?” Today we sang “Morning Song” again. Tapping knees then clapping hands makes a nice rhythm. “Knees and clap and knees and clap!” Along with this rhythm, we enthusiastically sang our song, we know this is the song we start off a day! After the song, teachers showed us bean bags. Seila asked us “Is it light or heavy?”. Each of us got a beanbag and felt it. They were not heavy at all because we could easily toss it up in the air. With our hands, we squeezed, rolled it on the floor, balanced it on top of our heads and tossed up bean bags to reach the ceiling. At last, we lined up behind the pink line on the floor and tossed it into a box. Shoot! Some of us did “slam dunk”!

Free Play Time:

After snack time, we went to play again. Since some of us enjoyed playing at the kitchen corner earlier, teachers pulled out some kitchen toys for us. That corner was very popular. With a table and cushions, we enjoy not only “cooking” but also “serving”. Presentation is also important, right? W and E were busy like they were running a restaurant. The indoor slide was requested again today. K, Y and L enjoyed sliding on their tummies and going down from their legs. A lot of friends visited our library corner too. E, S and R chose books they would like to read and read the books with one of our teachers.

Circle Time 2:

We had a lot of fun running around inside the classroom and doing some stretches, dancing to  uptempo songs such as A-ha’s “Take on Me”. We had good exercise even though we didn’t go to a park today. We also practiced holding the park rope again, teachers said we were doing better and better everyday.

See you next time!

Love,
