Rain Turtle

“Good morning everyone!”, we greeted our friends as we entered the classroom. We took a peek at what some of our friends were doing today. Some of our friends were at one of the tables doing puzzles, some sat at the big table with Sayaka to make playdough! Our friends had a great time measuring and mixing the dough, Sayaka had to put the playdough in the microwave for a while so we will have to wait until tomorrow to play with it. J was playing with the number puzzles, he put together 1, 8, and 7 and asked Nimo what number it was. Nimo answered, “One hundred, eighty seven.” J had Nimo read 186, 185, and 184. J put together 183 and he tried reading it himself, “One hundred…Eighty…three!”, he did the same for 182 and 181. R was beside J and playing with the numbers too. R asked Nimo, “What number is this (five)? Where does this one (+ and x) go?”. He worked together with J to figure it out. E was playing with the USA Map puzzle, Nimo picked up the West Virginia piece then started singing, “Country Road” by John Denver. E joined in for the chorus, E knew the words to the song, and we enjoyed listening to his beautiful singing! P and T sat side by side doing their own Alphabet puzzle. P is still learning his letters and he did a great job identifying some of the things on the puzzle. “Snake…S….” He seemed curious about some of the letters and together with his friends, they learned some new ones. Today P pointed at O, W, and A. T was more used to his letters and the pictures on them as he said, “Z is for Zebra, K is for Kite, J is for Jaguar, and U is for Umbrella”. When Nimo called our name, we sat down with him at a table to draw our self-portraits. We first looked into the mirror and identified the parts on our faces, then tried drawing ourselves. It was amazing to see how each of us sees ourselves in different ways! S did a great job saying all the parts he saw in the mirror in English, “Hair, eyes, nose, mouth, ears”. K looked into the mirror and drew what he saw. When he was trying to draw his mouth, he pointed into the mirror and said, “Look! Mouth over there!” and started drawing the mouth on his paper. We packed everything away, had our snacks, then got ready for the park.

Before we went to play outside, Nimo read us a very special book, “Rain Turtle” by Jake Swindal and Illustrated by Ry Menson. G said, “That is my daddy’s book!”. We were so surprised to find out that this book was written by G’s dad! It was a lovely story about how rain isn’t so bad and there are lots of things like plants and other people that need rain. When we feel like splashing in a puddle or getting messy in the mud, we can draw a Rain Turtle to wish for the rain. In the book were some pictures of G too!

T: (Turtle) big big very big!

G: G! *pointed at a picture of G*

J: Turtle

Nimo: How many fish are in this river, lets count together!

Petals: Five! *Held up 5 fingers*

T: G is splashing, splashing!

E: He is inside (the tent).

T: Inside the tent, you can see animals in the forest!

G: Look here! My nose! *Pointed at a picture of a raindrop on his nose* The end!

Nimo: What needs rain?

E: Flowers!

Thank you G and Jake for sharing such a lovely story!

Our weather reporters E, S, and T went out to the balcony to see the weather today.

Nimo: Is it snowing or raining?

S: No

Nimo: Sunny?

S: Yes!

We didn’t have enough time to go to the park so we ran around in the temple nearby. We found some fruits from a tree and a shiny green bug! When we got back to school we sat by our newly made Birthday Wall. We sang the Months in the Year song and counted how many months there were.

Nimo: Which month are we on? S…S…Sep….

T: September!

Nimo: Which month is next?

J: October!

Nimo: Whose birthday is on this month?

T: E!

S: December!

Nimo: Whose birthday is after E?

S: J!

Nimo: In March?

S: T!

T: My Birthday is a very long time from now.

Nimo: April?

G: G’s Birthday!

K: C!

E: S too!

Nimo: In August is…

T: L
K: K!

Before we went and had our lunch we played a quick game called, “I Spy”. Nimo would say, “I spy something….(color)” and we had to point to something of that color. The quickest friend would go and get ready for lunch first.

We hand another lovely day in Petals! Hope everyone gets a good night’s sleep!

See you tomorrow!

Love,

Petals
