Hands and Fingers
Pasta Threading Station
This morning, big sized penne pasta was available to practice looping and threading. It looked like pipes! We enjoyed connecting it together through a thread, and made a long line just like how we connect trains! L made a really long one by including wooden beads in the arrangement as well. These wooden beads and big sized penne pasta made a big sound and got scattered whenever it fell from the table. N picked it all up and put it together again like solving a puzzle. W inserted the penne pastas through his fingers one by one like it was a fashion accessory.
Paint Art
Last Saturday was Japanese “十五夜(Jugoya)” festival in which we can admire the beauty of the autumn moon. We smeared yellow paint using sponge rollers on an artwork which we worked on last week. N used both her hands to get a hold of rollers and painted from one end to another! K came close to the table and observed until N came up to her and handed two rollers! Both N and K ended up having so much fun painting together! S also joined in the fun as he showed curiosity towards the rollers, touched it first and eventually used it to smear paint.
Car Washing
We love driving cars over most of the sensory activities that we have hence it often gets dirty. To learn the responsibility of cleaning up, our teachers prepared a “Car Wash” activity wherein we scrubbed the toy cars clean using sponges, soap, and water. We used our hands to mix and dilute the soap with water that produced bubbles after a short while. J, who had the most fun driving cars through our paper mache last week, was happy to see the “Car Wash” and washed cars with utmost effort. E and K helped a lot as well and both of them exchanged a lot of giggles. R heard the laughter and came by to join in the fun by splashing water all around!
Free Play
We enjoy being given the freedom to use our imagination to create our own type of play. At school, we are encouraged to mix and match different materials to see which would work and which would not. J and K tied threads around cars and pulled it around the room like they were walking their pet dogs. Wren and J were busy constructing some buildings with blocks. It seems like playing with blocks is one of their favorite things to do.
Circle Time
We started off Circle Time singing & dancing along to the song, “Baby Shark”. We also requested the songs, “Little Fish” and “Hungry Sharks” in which we used our hands to make tiny fish with our fingers and rubbed our belly using our hands for “hungry sharks”. We also enthusiastically sang our “Good Morning” song together. After that, we moved around with music. Teachers introduced the “Bear Hunt” song to us and we went to find a bear. We walked over the bridge, climbed up/down a tree, rowed a boat and went into a cave. It was a big adventure. When we came back from the“Bear Hunt”, we found a paper tree and we sat down around it. The tree had double-sided tapes stuck to it wherein we had to peel off its white protective seal to be able to use it. After peeling it all off, we stuck colorful fluffy pompoms on it and pretended it were berries! Berries! A few of us usually have it for our snacks! We did “berry picking” by using a pair of tongs to pick berries from the tree. While picking, we identified what type of berry each pompom would be based on its color… red ones looked like strawberries while blue ones reminded us of blueberries! They were gone in a minute because everyone did a great job with using tongs!
Fire Drill
We also practiced our very first fire drill of the year. Our teachers played a “Fire Alarm” sound and calmly briefed us with what we were supposed to do. Although a few of us gave a worried look upon hearing the “alarming” sound, we followed the instruction of covering our mouths and nose with our hands so that we don’t inhale smoke and calmly walked out of the room.
