All About My Face
It was raining in the morning when we got to school. Some of us got a little bit wet, while others came in dry perhaps because they had their rain gears on.
Inside the classroom, we greeted our friends and teachers. We saw Vieda, Liezel, and another teacher; named Cameron. We then completed our morning jobs and started to play.
Since some of our friends were not here to make their paper dolls last week; our teachers set up our paper doll crafts on one table. We were inspired by how some of our friends made paper dolls that resemble ourselves. There was a variety of materials that we got to choose from. We found it interesting to feel different textures and fabrics as well. We had fun creating and making the dress for our dolls. It was such a great activity where we were able to explore different materials and helped us work on our creativity as well.
On the other table, some of our friends were having a wonderful time decorating their letter cut-out crafts. We utilized different materials, such as pom poms, cut-out mats, buttons, and feathers, to decorate it! Several friends were on another table to complete our threading activity too! This is one of the things we are planning to put on very first chandelier for this year.
Our Process Art
Today, we explored textures, colors, shapes, and designs using several collage materials. At the same time, we made this process art fun and colorful by adding wood chips, pom poms, colored buttons, metal shavings, feathers, and bubble wrap. Using glue, we explored sticking objects and scrap onto our painting.
For our free play, we had animal counters, cork blocks, and construction tools. We made a tower and built a castle for the animals. Playing together with our friends helped us to learn to work as a team. It also provides opportunities to learn some skills when playing together such as taking turns and sharing.
Circle Time
We started our circle time with freeze dance by Scratch Garden and Stop and Go by Ella Jenkins. We had so much fun moving our bodies around while learning about following directions. We got so tired and rested for a bit; then we sang our hello song. We then asked our friend Ti to read the today’s question of the day.
Question of the Day: Do you wash your mouth?
Recently, we have been talking about our faces and things that we see on it. At the same time, it was a great opportunity to learn about how we care for our bodies. We were a bit hesitant about taking care of our mouth. As always, both YES and NO columns were filled with names. As B was about to answer the question, she asked an interesting question. She asked, “DO you we wash inside or outside of our mouth? Because I only do the outside?”.
Here's how our discussion went:
C: Like this (rubbing the face) in the sink.
Hi: Together with my eyes. Used my body soap.
Au: You wash your mouth without soap, but you don't need soap because if you wash your mouth with soap, it goes to your body, and you need to go to the hospital.
Ti: I don't wash my mouth because my mommy never told me to wash my mouth.
My mommy always brushes my teeth.
Da: I use soap and water here(mouth) but not the inside because it's sticky.
Be: I wash my mouth; I put body washing soap for my mouth.
Liezel: Do you wash inside your mouth?
Di: I wash outside of my mouth.
Liezel: Why do we wash the inside of our mouth?
Ti: To keep our teeth clean.
D: Like washing our teeth.
Sh I brush my teeth by myself.
Ka: I wash inside my mouth.
Re: I wash here(forehead) and here(mouth)
We then talked about what we do when we wake up.
Hi: One more sleep.
Sh I eat breakfast.
Hi: Eat breakfast and change clothes, and play.
Ka: Eat breakfast, brush teeth, change my clothes.
Da I sleep first at night, and I wake up. I eat first. I change, then I go to school.
Au: Play a little, pack my backpack, then go to school.
Re: I eat my breakfast, change my shirt and go to school.
Ky: Wake up and eat bread, change your clothes, brush your teeth and go to school.
Au: First breakfast, change clothes, change shoes, get a backpack, go to the elevator, and then go to school.
Da: Sleep again and again and again. Next eat, I go to school.
Ti: I think D will be late for school and just come to meet us at the park.
It was interesting talking about how we all prepare differently for school time.
Just before lunch, we had a short circle time. On the whiteboard, we saw a large circle shape. We wondered why it is on the board. Ky said, “It’s a face!”. Good job! We each had a turn to complete all the face parts, including eyes, ears, nose, mouth, teeth, and hair. Hooray, Flowers!
Finally, the rain stopped, and we were so glad that were able to go out and have park time. After playing for a while, we got so hot and sweaty. We had our water break and decided to go back to school.
Please enjoy the rest of the evening!
Love,
Flowers Class
