The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig
Happy Friday, everyone! We had a wonderful time playing with Kapla blocks, family miniatures, alphabet puzzles, and play kitchen. N arranged the blocks and then asked the teacher, “What do you think these blocks say? They’re letters, you know?”. And they really did look like letters! Z said, “And I made a legend. It’s a magical thing!”. Y also made a long trail and he said,” Very long, right?!”. On the table, K worked on the details of his drawing. H had a fun time playing alphabet puzzles and cooking in the play kitchen, too!
We had a group painting activity on the other side of the room. Do you remember how we enjoyed the story of The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig? Well, today we painted the houses because we have been thinking of making a “show” for it. To start off, we decided to make the houses first.
Y and N chose to make the house of flowers. They painted it with blue, yellow, and red. N suggested, “Maybe we can put the flowers from there (on our art display wall) on this house! Or if our friends like it, we can also make new ones.”. Thank you for such a brilliant idea of reusing our room decors!
Ky, B, and D were so engrossed in painting that they painted two houses! When making the brick house, B made sure that every corner of the box will be red. When she was almost finished, Ky suggested, “Maybe I can put black lines so it will be bricks!”. Teamwork at its best! While painting, they talked about the story, too!
D: I want to be the wolf!
B: Me, too! I don’t want to be the pig.
Ky: The big bad pig, you don’t like? Big bad pig big tummy have it.
D: I don’t want to be pig!
Ky: Maybe Vieda can be the big bad pig.
Vieda: Awww! I’ll be the big bad pig? Because of my tummy?
B: It’s okay. Everybody has a tummy. It’s okay, Vieda!
Ky: Okay, okay. Tummy you have it, you the big bad pig. But maybe Vieda can be the cameraman. You take pictures iPad.
Speaking of the story about the little wolves and the big bad pig, we had an interesting discussion about pigs and wolves. As a starter, we went over the story again. Here are some of the highlights of ideas during our story time:
Ky: I have a bad wolf book.
N: This story is the opposite (of The Three Little Pigs).
K: The electric wire zaps you when you touch it.
K: I have that one (barbed wires). Pro wrestlers use it to fight. We can make that one, then boom boom boom!
D : Flamingo!
K: The pig smells the flowers. Why is the ball higher than the bird?
QUESTION OF THE DAY: Can pigs run?
Z: No, because they have short legs, and they might fall.
Ky: No running because only two feet (referring to hooves) and big tummy, so fall down.
N: They can run like horses. I watched before that people go and sit on their backs and they run in a circle like a race. I saw a real one. We went on a train and went to Musashi Sakai.
D: I saw pigs running fast.
K reminded us that we can share our ideas about pigs and “it doesn’t matter if you get it wrong, because we are just sharing what we think!”. Absolutely!
So, we started sharing what we think pigs can do. Our friends raised their hands and excitedly shared.
Ky: They can find food. I’ll check my iPad and I’m gonna tell you. Or I look at R’s book about animals and see it. But wolf, only see it, circle one the moon. My daddy’s friend said you can see a real one.
D: Pigs have short legs. Wolf big tummy.
Z: It will eat you. It eats people.
K: Not people. Wolves don’t eat people. Pig eat pig food, wolf eat meat.
Ky: Wolf see people, eat. But find food, like dinosaurs.
N: They eat dead people and if they see mice. They hunt for food at night.
H: Oniku!
We also tried to compare pigs and wolves. Z mentioned that wolf has sharp teeth, while the pigs don’t. N recalled that when he saw a pig’s mouth, its teeth were rounded. On the other hand, Ky said that he had seen a real pig that was black in Chiba. H said, “Oink, oink!”.
As our discussion about pigs got more interesting, Vieda asked if we knew that we share some similar body organs with the pigs. One thing that she mentioned was our heart. We talked about a special surgery in a hospital where a pig’s heart was put in a man’s chest because his heart got sick. We talked about our heart before so, we know how it works in our body.
K: Our heart pumps blood for our body and for our brain.
N: If doctors take their heart, they will get sick?
Ky: My daddy say people heart give to pig.
N: The man didn’t die but the pig died.
Ky: My question, how do they do it?
We had so many questions after we discovered that a pig’s heart functions like ours, and there was in fact a man who got it, too! As N pointed out that although the pig’s heart saved a man’s life (** we haven’t talked about what happened to the man**), the pig died. Perhaps, we can talk more about this next time. Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful ideas!
For our “homework”, please check if pigs have other similar body organs as humans. We are looking forward to hearing your discoveries!
We hope that you will have a lovely weekend! See you all on Monday!
Love,
Flowers
