Fat and Blubber

What a wonderful, warm, spring day we had! It’s a little cloudy now, but it was so nice and sunny when we were at the park! Before we went to Kogai Park to enjoy the sunshine, we continued working on our crafts from yesterday. We then played with our cork blocks and people toys. We had our snacks then made our way to the park! Right when we got to the park, we noticed a hole where the ant’s home was. Many of our friends spent a long time observing the ants. We went and searched for more ant homes, and to our surprise we found so many! One ant hole in the shade really caught our attention and a few of our friends decided to help out the ants build a home. They used flowers, grass, branches to made a nice home for our hardworking ant friends. The sun was shining so brightly that a short run made us sweat!

After we said our good byes to our ant friends, we got back to school and began our circle time. We sang a few songs together then jumped right into our Question of the Day. Z volunteered to read our question, “Do you have fat in your body?”. Almost everyone said, “No,” only R put his name on yes. Before we found more out about our Question of the Day, Nimo asked us if any of us knew what, “fat” is.

Z: Fat is white, kind of like cream.

B: Fat is Flat, it’s very flat.

Y: It’s like a fish.

T: Your tummy gets big.

Z: carefully explained the cool science experiment we did on Tuesday.

Z: We had two bags, one with nothing in it and another with some fat. When we put our hands in the cold water it felt so cold, we couldn’t keep our finger inside for too long. When we put our hands in the bag with the fat in it, it felt warm, and we could keep our hands in for a lot longer.

K: We used shortening.

K: Fat is *breathes air out* No more tummy!

We learned that everyone had some sort of fat in their bodies. Fat can help us stay warm, just like animal blubber. Nimo explained to us that fat stores energy just like how the laptop battery stores energy for when it get unplugged. We gave our tummies a pinch to feel our fat.

B: (You get more fat in your body) from eating.

T: How about if you have too much fat?

D: Are you going to die?

B: Maybe you won’t be able to stretch.

K: Who invented fat?

Z: I know who made fat, it was Allahmiya.

If we don’t take in too much fat, it can help us in so many ways! However, even the helpful fat can be a very bad word to say to other people.

K: Calling people fat is very rude.

We had a short discussion about how everyone is different and have different body types.

Before we had our lunch, we played our favorite game, Simon Says. We all took turns being the teacher and tried to trick our friends! Hope everyone has a wonderful evening, and we will see you all again tomorrow for April Fools!

Love,

Flowers
