Happy Valentines!

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! Our teachers would like to thank everyone for preparing the sweet surprises today! Our teachers were very happy, we also made sure to remind them to not eat too much at once! After a round of hugs we got straight to work with our Valentine’s day crafts. First, we made some Heart decorations from strips of paper. We cut out thin strips then folded the strips in half. We then stuck the two ends together and we had made a heart! We then used the stapler to stick it to a string so we could hang our hearts from the ceiling! Our next craft was threading with some heart shaped beads. We got to choose the color of beads we wanted to use to make a unique part for our next chandelier. Our last craft was adding leaves to our bare “Tree of Love”. We had prepared a lot of heart shapes from last week and we used them today to stick them on to the branches of our tree! In no time our classroom was filled with hearts and pink! Our classroom it’s starting to look like Valentine’s Day!

We marched on over to Arisugawa park and had a great time running around in the big park! When we got back to school we got ready for our circle time! We were so engaged in our conversation today, we forgot we were hungry and didn’t have lunch until very late. Here’s how our discussion went today:

Nimo: What is today?

A: Valentine’s Day!

Y: (The day) is 14.

Nimo: What do you do on Valentine’s Day?

C: You dance, you can go to a special place, or decorate your home with hearts and sparkles.

B: Give hearts, you can go to a nice restaurant and eat together.

T: You share your love, maybe have a heart celebration.

A: My mom and my sister gave me chocolates. Me and daddy don’t give chocolate.

K: Eat chocolate cake.

K: Have a DJ party!

Z: Go somewhere cool like an amusement park and ride on a heart Ferris wheel and a heart tea cup.

Nimo: What is a “heart”?

B: You give love.

C: It’s a shape.

K: It’s a shape you can make with things and your body. It has a triangle on the bottom and two thing on the top.

S: This is a heart. *Points at Beatrice’s Pants with hearts on it*

Nimo: What do you think “hearts” do?

B: If your hearts moves too fast, your going to die. That’s why you need it to move slow.

C: It pumps blood.

K: So we don’t die.

K: This book tell us. *Points at a Body book*

Nimo: Why do you think it pumps blood?

B: So your body doesn’t get shorter and shorter.

C: Because if you trip, there is nothing there, you only have bones. And if your blood doesn’t pump, there will be no blood, so we need blood.

T: Is there blood in the heart? Are our veins all connected to our heart?

Nimo: What do you think is the shape of your heart? Let’s draw what you think on the board.

Our friends all drew what they thought was the shape of their heart, we had very unique hearts! Nimo showed us a book called, “The Human Body” by Jonathan Miller and David Pelham. We took a look at what a real heart looks like and we were very surprised.

K: How big is the heart?

C: Why is it red and blue?

T: Those big ones are connected with our small ones?

K: does it get smaller when it pumps?

Nimo read us the book to answer all of our questions! We had so many more questions we wanted to ask and so many more things we wanted to know. Nimo wanted to talk more about Valentines day, but we were so into the heart, we decided to keep talking about the heart for a little bit longer. We had to cut our discussion short because we were out of time, we weren’t going to have much time to eat our lunch. Right before we had our lunch, we took a visit to the office and shared our love and chocolates to Shelley and Maryna!

Have a lovely evening everyone and we will see you all again tomorrow! Thank you!

Love,

Flowers
