Happy Last Day of November

Assorted Sensory Cooking

Yesterday’s “Cooking and Preparing a Holiday Feast Free Play” continued today with a different set up and items to use. Instead of having it in the inner part of the room with our Kitchen Equipments, the station was prepared on one of our tables wherein we were encouraged to sit around it and “cook”. The set up was made for our younger friends to be encouraged to stay seated while “eating” whilst enticing our older friends to mingle more with them in “sit down” conversations.

The items included were soba noodles, slices of pumpkin, twigs that were picked up yesterday, playdough, styrofoam blocks and utensils. Here’s what we did:

K found it amusing when marks were left on the playdough when she poked it with a plastic fork. She also spent time with Goh San making little “pointy” forms of playdough.

Y enjoyed creating his own insects using playdough and wooden twigs. He used the twigs as its legs & antenna and was amused when he found out that twigs could break when we bent it.

N was a proud chef by making plates of orange & green colored pizzas and a special delicacy by forming little pieces of playdough

J covered one end of a chopstick with playdough and said that he made a sausage. He “grilled” it on top of a slice of pumpkin. He even showed us his amazing fine motor skills by showing us how to properly use the chopsticks.

J found it soothing to form small balls of playdough using the tips of his fingers. He also enjoyed bending twigs and inserting both its ends onto a playdough to form a bridge.

Sparkle Abstract Artwork

We are like little elves in Santa’s factory creating lots of group process art within the theme of “MAGICAL and SPARKLING”. Today, we got to work with white glue which always leaves us with a fun, sticky sensory experience.

Today’s items in this station included blue colored wool, strips of purple tissue paper, strips of gold & silver plastic, and lots of glitter. Here’s what we did:

G thought of a fantastic idea of drawing on glitter! She drew swirls and lines which enticed a few friends to follow her lead.

Y and N followed G’s lead and were also given spatulas dipped in white glue for them to spread “glitter paint”.

These stations kept most of us busy. Our youngest members R and N were busy exploring all the stations, trying their hand on all activities.

Kz noticed that our balcony windows were decorated with snowflakes and stars that we made in the previous weeks. He found it interesting how he could see through the colors and glitters which altered his view.

Circle Time

Our dance session before settling in for Circle Time discussion was filled with energy thanks to Goh San and Yuri. They showed us different dance moves that we could follow to the catchy beat of the songs, “Shalalala” by Vengaboys and “Macarena” by Los Del Rio. These two songs were such a hit with us that it led us to pretend to be like animals out in the wild!

After dancing, Erika brought out special black binoculars that helped her find each one of us who was present in class today. After doing our morning roll call using the “strange” looking black binoculars, we were asked to keep our ears on alert as we heard strange sounds (white noise music). We all gave our thoughts on what could be producing the strange sounds and the most common answer that came about was “rain”.

Where does rain fall from? From clouds! We were each given a piece of cloud (blue colored cotton) in which we used for our interactive musical play. A learns best through music which is why it is a delight to hear him repeat instructions in English while he “toss and catch” his cloud with his hand. We all shared a good laugh when we were asked to use the blue cloud as a wig… anyone fancy seeing us in a blue colored wig?

Kz demonstrated his leadership skills by giving us suggestions on how we can use the blue cloud. He shared a cool idea of making the cloud move like magic by holding a small part of it in between our fingers which made it look like it was floating in air!

Outdoor Play

We were lucky that the sand pit of the big slide area of Step Park was dry enough for us to play with this morning! Sliding down the big, slippery slide is a great opportunity for us to encourage one another (even our teachers!) to take courage and be brave to slide down.

We also moved to the green area of the park when Petals Class came for us to be able to mingle and play with.

We hope all of you are having a wonderful Wednesday so far!

Love,

Buds Class Children
