Halloween Party 2022!

Happy Halloween!

Today was our first big party for this school year in Flowers Class. We spent so much time this month preparing for this one special day.

We prepared many handmade decorations to place across the classroom like banners and streamers. We made lots of Halloween themed arts/crafts like pumpkins and witches. We even posed as scary monsters to be placed inside of our Spooky House! It has felt very festive all month long.

Most days we practiced our songs, “Knock Knock, Trick-or-Treat” and “The Skeleton Dance” with Vieda, Liezel, and Cameron. Maryna often came to our class to teach us the dances for “Five Little Monkeys, “Going on a Monster Hunt”, and “Guess Who?”. We all enjoyed learning the songs and dances and always had fun doing it. We were all so anxious and excited for the day that we would preform in front of our parents.

In the morning, everyone arrived one-by-one in their very creative costumes. We had many different princesses, a prince, a mermaid, a witch, a policeman, a porcupine, and a dinosaur! Our teachers even dressed up as Wally from one of our favorite book series “Where’s Wally?”. It was super fun to come to school in our costumes!

Before our parents arrived, we had time to eat our snack, which because today is Halloween, we could bring anything we wanted. Even chocolate or candy! It was awesome! After snack we had a little bit of time for a dress rehearsal. It had been over a week since we were last able to practice, so we were unsure if we remembered everything. We practiced where we would stand, and in which order we would do things. We rehearsed some of our songs and dances one last time. It didn’t take long until we knew that…

WE ARE READY!!

As our parents started trickling in, we greeted them by saying “Welcome” and “Happy Halloween”. After a few minutes, everyone was in their seats and we were ready to perform!

It was fun to introduce our costumes to everyone and to see our parents get involved too! It was nice to see our parent’s smiling faces as they watched our performances, and we felt proud of ourselves when we heard their applause. Even though we enjoyed doing these kinds of things through ZOOM the last few years, it was so much better to have everyone in the same room this time!

The games we played were fun too! We enjoyed bowling, dressing up as mummies, getting our faces painted, and fishing!

At the end, we all had a special surprise from our parents! A Trick-or-Treat bag full of treats!

Some of us had a hard time saying goodbye to our moms and dads. It was a bit unusual for them to be here in our class for that long and we were not sure how to react. It was so nice to have them join us and we wished they could stay, but we had other things to do today! We had another special surprise waiting for us at the park!

When we arrived at the park, Br’s mom, Cy was waiting for us with Br’s baby brother Au. We have four toy babies in our classroom that we love playing with. We often play house, by dressing them up, feeding them, and even giving them a bath. Today was a great opportunity to see what a real baby looks like up close.

The first thing we noticed was that baby Au had something in his mouth.

Sh: It’s a dummy

Be: It’s a pacifier. What’s a dummy?

Sh: You put it in the baby’s mouth, so they don’t put fingers in there.

Da thought that the baby shouldn’t put their fingers in their mouth, “because dirty!”

We cleaned our hands with alcohol so that we didn’t pass any germs to him.

We were able to interact with Au and touch his feet. Some of us were a little shy and only wanted to look at Au, but that was still interesting.

Ti thought that “he looks like Br”. We could see that sometimes family members look similar.

Once everyone had a chance to see Au up close, he started to get hungry, so Cy and Br gave him a bottle of milk and we all started playing in the park before we needed to go back to Ohana to eat lunch.

We were really glad to see everyone come and support us on this day! We love our families and are happy that we could enjoy Halloween together! Thank you to everyone who helped us make our party special! We couldn’t have done it without you!

Love, Flowers
