Stepping Into the First School Day of October
A VERY Mix and Match Station
Mix and match stations are starting to become a regular in our Free Play a sour teachers have observed our increasing interest in tinkering and putting together of a variety of items.
The “Mix and Match Buds Children Puzzle” from last week was continued today wherein E took initiative in completing her friends’ picture by being able to quickly identify who was in the picture just by seeing the hair or eyes.
J and K had an interesting exchange on how K’s puzzle should like with one being humorous and one being serious about the proper arrangement.
Three sheets of blank paper and “interesting” looking cut outs of face parts were laid out for us to color with sing POSCA markers. J discovered that by pressing the tip of the markers long enough, more ink would come from it hence he was able to make lots of “swirly” designs on the face parts.
K used her strength in taking off and putting back the caps of the markers. She also spent time scribbling and even tried using both her hands at the same time.
A block of black colored styrofoam was used for us to insert various items in it… strengthening our fine motor skills and encouraging us to to think of ways on how successful “insert” it. K, S and N found fuzzy wires to be the easiest to insert/push through the foam while E, after observing, used her two hands like a hammer to successfully push in popsicle sticks.
Stepping into Foam Mats
It’s the start of a new month and we will start exploring more about ourselves & our surroundings through our feet. Foam mats were taped on the floor instead on the table for our teachers to observe what we would do with it. Interestingly, K & J used it as sitting mats to sit on while they browse through their Life Books. And oh, N flipped through S Lifebook for both him and Elena to see!
L and W thought of dashing through the mats with their fast feet! They stopped on their tracks upon noticing that running on bubble wrap made a sound whereas running on foam mats did not.
Helping Hands and Feet!
The past month, our teachers have consistently worked on guiding us to use our hands in being responsible of keeping room and items neat & tidy. Apart from using our hands, our feet also of a big help as it allows us to place large items back to its proper place. J used his hands and feet to push/carry the table, K & J used theirs to carry & stack chairs, and S used his to pick up books from the floor and place it back in the shelves.
He’s Got the Whole World in His FEET?!?
We are happy to announce that the time spent for Clean Up/Pack Away has significantly decreased due to our Helping Hands & Feet that we now have a longer time to show off our dance moves. Erika played a new song for us to dance to which was Todos Estrellas’ “Mambo Yambo”. It is interesting to note that without even having to be given instructions, we automatically moved our bodies to the catchy beat. J, W, L, and K all took center stage in showing us their breakdancing moves.
We cooled down by stretching and working on our flexibility to Poolside’s “Harvest Moon”(Satin Jackets Remix) when we were suddenly asked to use of legs & feet to do the actions for “He Got the World in His… FEET?!?” That seemed strange…
Things got a whole lot more strange when a potato suddenly rolled by into our Circle Time as well! Why can’t the potato control itself from rolling? What body parts could it need? K picked out the eyes for it to see while S picked the nose for it to smell… perhaps that could help it from rolling? We shall find out tomorrow but it did help us smell our snacks which were waiting for us for Snack Time!
Out in the Park
We were in for a treat as the big slide was available for us to use! It was a blast having to climb us the stone wall and face our “fear” in going down the big, long slide! Most of us preferred to use the rough slide which made sliding down a bit slower so there may be a few holes on our bottoms.
We hope every is having a great start of the week!
Love,
Buds Class Children
