What Do You See?

We started the day by taking the time to eat our snack first thing in the morning. It’s a different schedule from last year but we feel like we have more control over how much free playtime time we have and how much we eat.

During free play, we played with a new fishing game that Pauline bought. There was a magnetic fishing pole and we had to fish for the different kinds of sea creatures. There was a crab, starfish, an octopus, a school of fish and other varieties of fish. We always love playing with the candy house so we took it in the middle of the room and brought the fish toys in it. Something else we brought inside the house was the Halloween flashlight. It worked perfectly in the dim house. We also wanted to draw on the whiteboard. We used markers to draw big scribbles and circles. When some of our friends wanted a little quiet time they picked up a book and read in the corner. On the other side of the room, we finished up our group artwork. We had sponges and paint brushed to cover our art with white paint. It was now complete!

After cleaning up we went around singing how we felt for the day and most people were happy! We had some friends that said they were sleepy, hungry and excited. Lea said, “When I was at home I was sleeping a lot. Mommy and daddy wake me up”. Kai mentioned that during the winter break we must have been like bears hibernating and sleeping all the time.

We then reflected on what we did in the group art.

C and S: Painted

S: Coffee ground. (We used coffee grounds for the base)

K: My mommy and daddy and grandma go to the museum.

Our painting looks like it could be in a museum.

K: What do you see or what does it make you think of?

(We were close to the art and explained what we saw)

C: Elephant

M: Pompoms

S: I see… coffee grounds

(Then we moved away from the art so we could see the whole thing and told the class how we felt about the art)

S: It looks funny. Happy!

A: Happy

R: Happy

L: Angry

Kai: What makes you angry?

L: Because it’s cold

R: Happy. *She likes pinecones*

M: Warm

Kai: What makes you feel warm?

M: *Points to the pompoms*

K: It looks warm *Points to the pinecone*

R: Warm. Because it’s cold. The white is cold. The brown is warm.

S: Good.

Kai: What do you like?

S*Points to the pinecone*

Kai: Why?

S: Because it’s round

We’re getting better at expressing our feelings and looking at abstract objects. Today we used our sense of sight to see the artwork. Tomorrow, Kai said we will use another sense to explore the artwork some more.

We got ready for the park so quick we were able to go to our favorite park! Amishiro! Some of our friends like to try and catch the pigeons but what we really love are the slides. Big, long, small-  we went on all of them. We also like to go through the brushes and try to go up the monkey bars. It was a wonderful day being outside with Mr Sun. We hope you also had a wonderful day!
