The Soles of our Feet
Our day started in Flowers with activities that made us to work with our small muscles in our hands and fingers. We collected colorful beads of different sizes and colors and strung them into a line. Ka and K said, “We are making a pattern!” as they proudly showed their finished bead strings. Our younger friends at first said, “No, I can’t do it.”, “I get tired with this one!” when they were invited to join the table. When they saw how much fun the older friends were having, they also reached for other beads and tried to make a pattern like them. It was such a beautiful scene where children learn and get motivated by their peers. We are so proud of our older age group friends who are always willing to help and reach out to the younger age group throughout the day.
Bead activity got more interesting when we heard what we were going to do with them. Vieda showed us a big hoop and mentioned that we are going to make a Flowers’ chandelier. What an exciting class project this is! Aside from the bead strings, we also collected some art collage materials from the shelf and glued them on a sack-like piece of material. Next time, we would like to put on yarns and ribbons, too! We can hardly wait to make more decors for our chandelier!
We enjoyed learning about our feet and our soles. So, we were excited to work on our process art that we painted on using our feet! Well, we did not really have our feet painted. Nimo wrapped our feet with bubble wrap which had been painted after. We had fun walking on a paper with painted bubble wrap on our feet! Did anybody hear the bubble wrap popping? We could not really tell because our giggles could have been louder than the pop! Please watch out what comes next for this foot painting project.
When K read today’s question of the day (Do you have a favorite body part?), he happily said, “That’s my question to Vieda last time!”. Yes, today’s question of the day was inspired by his question. Some of our friends have started drawing their favorite body part and expressed the reason behind it.
Ka: My hands because I can make a cake.
B: My hands because I cannot eat if I don’t have a hand.
Ch: My mouth because I can eat with energy.
K: My feet because I can run.
We would love to hear what our other friends have in mind next time!
CIRCLE TIME
We read the story, The Soles of our Feet by Genichiro Yagyu again since some our friends were not here last week when we read it. As we were reading it, Vieda asked D what activity that he did with Nimo this morning. At first, he said, “I don’t know!”.
Vieda: Are you sure you don’t know what activity you did with Nimo about your feet?
D: Ahhh! My feet! My feet is blue and red. Nimo put something my feet. Then I walked with feet on the paper. The paper is blue here, and red over there!
Ra: (pointed to the monkey bars)
Ch: I’m scared when I get on top, so I climb down.
D: I’m not scared!
We looked at some of the footprints that we have and checked if there were lines and arches on them. Wow, we could see a lot of lines! Ka said, “The lines are like the lines on my hands, See?” and excitedly showed us her palms. We learned how these lines help our soles to feel what they step on, as well as prevent us from slipping.
Most of us sweat a lot when we play in the park on warm days. We know that we sweat but do we know where we sweat?
K: On my back and neck
Ka: Here in front
Ch: On my head. When it’s very hot and my head sweats a lot, the sweat goes down to my cheeks.
Ka: My sweat falls down on my hair.
Ch: Elbow? (for “waki” or armpit)
We were surprised to hear that our feet can sweat, too! When we sweat after park time, we change our shirts. That’s how we take care of our body. Our feet are part of our body, too. How are we supposed to take care of them?
Be: We wear socks.
Ka: When I’m thirsty, a bug will be thirsty and can go in our shoes.
K: The socks protect our shoes from getting wet.
Ka: If we have no socks and our feet get sweaty, our feet get smelly!
R: (pointed at his own socks)
We realized how important it is to wear socks when we are wearing closed shoes, such as sneaker. However, Ch raised his concern. He said, “Even if I am wearing slippers, my feet still smell.” Perhaps we need to do more in taking care of our feet, aside from wearing socks.
Vieda: How about sharing your thoughts on how you make sure your feet are clean?
Ka: I wash my feet like this with soap?
Ch: I wash like this! And we need to make sure to dry them after taking a bath of shower.
We will always try to remember to do these simple ways in keeping our feet clean and good-smelling😊
See you all on our Sports Day tomorrow!
Love,
Flowers XOXO
