Where is the Rain?

We were excited this morning when we came to school. We had our raincoats and boots on but we know if it rains we can’t go to the park so we’re secretly hoping it won’t rain. Saying that, Kai told us that we can also go out to play if it’s raining… What? We couldn’t believe it. We gave him a big “NOOO!!!”. So he told us that actually if we are prepared with our raincoats, boots and pants we CAN play in the rain. Now, we’re even more excited to go out! More on what we did at the park later…

First, in the morning we had free play with a big green mat out. We had no idea what it was for but decided to play with cars on it. At the tables we finished up our craft for track and field week. We made our customized bib with our name and number on it. There were also dinosaurs out and geometric puzzles for us to play with.

After free play we gathered for the main sports event of the day. We sat at the edge of the big green mat. Kai showed us the picture of the Olympic Stadium from earlier this week and asked us what we could see. We looked at the picture and saw that there is a big green area in the middle. Yes, that’s the field and that’s what we’re sitting on now. We looked closer and Kai showed us that there are places where they do high jump, long jump and javelin. What about around the field? That’s the track. We looked at the track and saw that there were people running on it. That’s what we're going to do today around the field. We stood up and walked around the field on our classroom “track” After running around the track we sat back down on the field. Kai showed us a picture of someone jumping over something on the track. It’s called hurdles. Today we’re going to try hurdles! The teachers set up the hurdles around the track and showed us how we were going to hurdle over the track. Before we could hurdle we have to put on our bib that we made. After putting on the bib we split up into two groups. The first group got down in racing position and the second group sat on the field to cheer them on. Ready, get set GO!! And off we go! Then it was the second group's turn. Ready, get set GO! YEY!! We were so good at jumping over the hurdles! No one tripped at all! We all get gold medals! It was a wonderful track and field week!

Before we were done with the day we still had to go play in the rain! We were all ready and anticipating playing in the rain and… there was no rain. But that didn’t stop us from having fun. We went to the park anyway to play in the puddles. We built mountains, castles, saw worms and had a blast chatting by the puddle. We also loved playing on the swings! Maybe next time we can really play in the rain! Hope you had a wonderful week! We sure did!
